| Scream Factory Releasing John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’ On Two-Disc Blu-ray This Fall
In my opinion there is no greater fusion of science fiction and horror than The Thing, John Carpenter‘s 1982 masterpiece of frostbitten fear and otherworldly invaders. It may have flopped hard at the box office when it first opened (a week following the release of E.T. – wow, that could not have been a pretty sight), but the film has gained a massive cult following over the years thanks to repeated cable airings and home video rentals and sales, and it has endured as an unbeatable genre classic. Scream Factory, the offshoot of Shout! Factory devoted to releasing only the finest in sci-fi and horror cinema on Blu-ray and DVD, is preparing to give us fans of The Thing its definitive home video edition when it releases Carpenter’s timeless film on collector’s edition and deluxe limited edition Blu-ray this fall.

| DC Resurrects ‘Justice League Dark’ As Next Animated Feature
Last summer Warner Bros. temporarily banished their DC Comics superhero film project Justice League Dark to the bleakest depths of Development Hell following the departure of Hellboy and Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro. The project would have brought together the DC Universe’s strangest supernatural heroes including Swamp Thing, the Demon, Zatanna, and John Constantine, but was not intended to be part of the studio’s plans for an extended cinematic universe based on other popular DC characters. Without del Toro at the helm, the feature looked as good as finished. But although Justice League Dark might never exist as a live-action film, it looks as if we will soon be seeing it in animated form.

| Disney Execs Not Pleased With ‘Rogue One’ First Cut; Expensive Reshoots Planned |

Now that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War have been released and made their respective impacts, the next highly-anticipated big screen blockbuster event of 2016 is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The first in a series of and prequels and spin-offs featuring characters and events integral to the evolution of the Star Wars universe, Rogue One tells the tale of the group of brave Rebellion soldiers who stole the plans to the Death Star that set in motion the narrative of Episode IV: A New Hope. The first trailer premiered almost two months ago to an enthusiastic worldwide response. Executives at Disney are counting on Rogue One to bring in global box office grosses equal to or greater than those of last December’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but according to a recent article by Page One’s Emily Smith, those same execs are less than thrilled with director Gareth Edwards after viewing his first cut of the film.

| ‘Black Panther’: Michael B. Jordan Reunites With Ryan Coogler For Marvel Film
Just one day after it was revealed that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) was in talks for a major (yet unspecified) supporting role in Black Panther, we have word that the hotly-anticipated Marvel Studios production is preparing to add another high-profile performer to the cast.
