Play Fair-19

If you and your children felt overwhelmed at New York City Comic Con last month, then I recommend saving early November for Play Fair NY. This past weekend Play Fair NY took over the Jacob Javits Center in midtown Manhattan, and gave kids of all ages a reason to be very excited about the upcoming holiday season. Play Fair NY featured interactive toy and game areas, celebrity and character meet and greets, a 13,000 pound vat of slime, a Minecraft VR learning lab, and a chance to see all the toys nominated for 2017 Toy of the Year. The best compliment I can pay Play Fair NY though, is as a parent. Both my 13-year old son and 6-year old daughter did not want to leave and they were actively playing and engaging their minds and imaginations, rather than glued to a screen.

UK Royal Mail Agatha Christie stamp

A few months ago, the U.K.’s Royal Mail released a set of stamps inspired by the works of Agatha Christie, one of the greatest mystery writers of all time, in honor of the 100th anniversary of her first detective story – The Mysterious Affair at Styles, which introduced Hercule Poirot, the famous fictional Belgian detective. But these are no ordinary stamps.

Each of the six designs is based on one of Christie’s popular novels and each contains hidden clues pertaining to its respective title — Murder on the Orient Express, The Body in the Library, And Then There Were None, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, A Murder is Announced, and the aforementioned The Mysterious Affair at Styles.

Check out images of all six designs here below.

Wintercon 2016

Many people attend conventions in hope of meeting their favorite celebrities and hearing cool stories in panels or Q&As. But for many geeks out there, conventions are the place to be for cool merchandise, comics, and a chance to meet and support favorite and independent artists in the Artist Alley. Earlier this month, I attended NY Wintercon at the Resorts World Casino NYC in Queens, NY and after covering my panels and conducting a few interviews, I did what many fans did — I hit the convention floor to do some holiday shopping for both my family”¦ and for myself.

Wonder Woman statues

On Preview Night on Wednesday at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con International, Warner Bros. Consumer Products presented a tribute to DC superhero Wonder Woman in celebration of her 75th Anniversary. Their exhibit included a massive replica of the Amazonian’s Invisible Jet, where SDCC attendees got to take their photo inside the cockpit.

The installation, located at the intersection of Island and 6th in San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter outside the convention center, also included a themed art exhibit with huge murals of Wonder Woman. The jet will be on display through Sunday, July 24, which is the final day of SDCC.
