BAADASSSSS!   |

Marvel's Ant-Man

Avengers: Age of Ultron may have received the bulk of the hype (not to mention the box office), but it was Ant-Man (check out Adam Frazier’s review at GoD from July, as well as my complete timeline of the film’s troubled development) that turned out to be the Marvel Studios’ summer release of 2015 that had audiences going back for second (and maybe third and fourth) helpings. I know I did.

Over a week following the surprise announcement that Marvel had put into development a sequel called Ant-Man and the Wasp for July 2018, the studio has revealed that the original that proved to be a resounding success with critics and audiences will be coming to home video on multiple viewing formats including Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray just in time for the holiday shopping season.

You can check out a trailer and cover art for the Blu-ray releases, along with ten minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from Ant-Man here below.

BAADASSSSS!   |

Ryan Coogler

Marvel Studios’ long-gestating Phase Three feature Black Panther, which recently signed Joe Robert Cole for scripting duties and saw its release date moved up from July 2018 to February of that year, so far has had a mighty difficult time locking down the perfect director.

Ava DuVernay (Selma) was first offered the gig over the summer, but she took a pass, as did F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton), who signed on to direct Furious 8 for Universal instead. Marvel seems determined to secure the services of a first-rate filmmaker, and according to a new rumor it appears that they may have found a new front-runner in Ryan Coogler.

Robert Rodriguez In Talks To Direct ‘Battle Angel’; James Cameron Will Produce

BAADASSSSS!   |

Battle Angel Alita

James Cameron has made the two highest-grossing films of all time, Avatar and Titanic, so he is in a position with his career now where he can do pretty much anything he wants. For many years he has developed a film adaptation of Yukito Kishiro‘s manga series Battle Angel Alita for 20th Century Fox, but that endeavor has seen its share of production delays while its would-be powerhouse director paid several visits to the planet Pandora.

Even still, Cameron has long desired to make a movie based on Battle Angel. That is until he decided that he would no longer make anything but sequels to his billion dollar sci-fi blockbuster Avatar – three of which he intends to film back-to-back. That means the Battle Angel movie that has long been relegated to the backburner spot on Cameron’s development slate is going to be in need of a new maestro to bring it to the silver screen, and that maestro is Robert Rodriguez.

The Texas-based director of Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, and the Spy Kids and Sin City movies is currently in negotiations with Fox to take the helm of the feature that has been renamed Alita: Battle Angel. Cameron will remain on board to produce along with his longtime producing partner Jon Landau under their Lightstorm Entertainment company.

‘Y: The Last Man’ TV Series Being Developed By FX

The Movie God   |  @   |

Y: The Last Man Image

A movie adaptation of writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra‘s extraordinary comic book series Y: The Last Man has been in the works for many years now, but it never felt right. The series ran 60 issues, and there was far too much great content to fit into a movie. Even a trilogy of movies would have been difficult. On top of that many believed the movie would have to be R-rated, and that was something the movie studio wasn’t very likely to do. No, this was something that belonged on TV somewhere with few rules and restrictions such as HBO.

If you were among those who wished with crossed fingers that Y: The Last Man would not work out as a movie and would one day end up being turned into a TV series, it appears that your wishes are coming true. It’s being reported that the comic is now being developed as a series at FX.
