Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World

Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World
Directed by Dana Nachman
Written by Dana Nachman and Kurt Kuenne
Starring: Miles Scott, Natalie and Nick Scott, Eric Johnston, and Mike Jutan
Running Time: 87 Minutes
KTF Films
Release Date: June 26, 2015

A few years ago, in mid-November, you may have found yourself locked into your favorite social media to witness a little wish come true as Make a Wish gave little Miles Scott his wish to be Batman for one day. They transformed parts of San Francisco into Gotham, and what started as a small project turned into something much, much bigger than anyone had expected.

A few years later, thanks to Dana Nachman (Human Experiment) and Kurt Kuenne, we get a look into how that idea turned into something that affected everyone who saw or heard about it in the documentary Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World. I can say just thinking about seeing him the first time, the emotions begin to flow and the goosebumps and the teary eyes are soon to follow, which is sort of ironic considering the same could be said for another movie that Kurt Kuenne was involved with, Dear Zachary, a movie that will tug and pull at your emotions as well.

The Order: 1886 Video Game

This week brought with it a little bit of controversy in the world of video games, when word surfaced that the highly anticipated new PlayStation 4 exclusive title The Order: 1886 is short. Like, really short. Five to seven hours short. While still costing the full $60 you’d spend on most new games.

This re-sparked the always interesting debate: are you willing to shell out the full $60 retail price for a game that’s only as long as a few movies, even if the game in question is actually really good?

Geek Discussion: Is ‘Destiny’ Still A Thing After Six Months?

Bungie's Destiny

In the summer of 2014, we got a beta event for Bungie’s Destiny and the excitement for the game was palpable. By September when the game came out, lines of people were clamoring to get their hands on this sci-fi MMO-FPS juggernaut and history was indeed made. Then the reviews started coming as people played through the game and the results were mixed at best. The story was found to be very thin; there were exploits like the “Loot Caves” which made the game ridiculously easy; no one seemed interested in going to Bungie’s site to explore these “Grimoire” cards for lore; and the list goes on and on.

Bungie however has responded as best they can to the community and fans responses. For the past six months, patch after patch has been released trying to dial into just what’s going on and give the developers a chance to “fix” issues. Again, the critics cried foul that the players weren’t given a full-fledged game experience from the start. By the time December rolled around and it was time for the first DLC to go live, fans had already abandoned ship and “The Dark Below,” despite updating and patching some big issues fans were upset about, didn’t seem to do much to improve Destiny‘s mediocre ratings.

The Last of Us Image

The end of 2013 has arrived, and video game critics, websites, and players everywhere are choosing their picks for Game of the Year.

I’ve not been able to play all of the great games that were released this year (there were quite a few), sadly, so I can’t fairly declare one the best of them all. I can, however, share my personal favorites, and wanted to open up a good ol’ geek discussion so you too can share your favorites!
