Brett Ratner Off ‘Conan’ Remake; James McTeigue In?

The Movie God   |  @   |

Conan

If you’ll recall, everyone’s favorite director, Brett Ratner, had a pile of movies on his desk, including: God of War, Beverly Hills Cop 4, Youngblood, a Hugh Hefner biopic, some heist movie, and the Conan reboot. Since accumulating this variety pack of projects to do, he’s killed his God of War project, and now comes word that he will not be directing Conan anymore either. And a smile gently formed upon my face. While Ratner still has more than enough work to choose from, at least now two of the more cherished properties are removed from his grasp. Now fans of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise just need to wish upon a star.

Empire Magazine spoke to Joe Gatta, producer of Conan as well as the Red Sonja re-imagining. Gatta had this to say about Ratner directing Conan:

We’re currently in the process of hiring a director. For the past six months we were discussing the movie with Brett Ratner, and for more timing issues than anything else we had to part ways with Brett. We all wanted him to do it, believe me; just the timing didn’t work. But you never know what can happen.

That seems to be the running theme with Ratner. He gathers all of these projects that don’t really fit his style, but due to these “scheduling conflicts,” he has to let them all go and concentrate on things much more fitting to his style such as Trump Heist — a movie with Eddie Murphy and Chris Tucker as a couple of janitors who plan a heist at Trump Towers.

Rumor Killing Madness! McG, Rob Zombie Clarify ‘H2’ & ‘Terminator Salvation’ Confusions

Terminator Salvation

Apparently this weekend was the national Directors Confirm/Deny/Elaborate Rumors day.

Two of the more news-worthy bits that had come about recently, involved two of this summer’s big blockbusters. One involved Rob Zombie‘s H2: Halloween 2, in which we were told that Michael Myers would actually be mask-less for the majority of the movie (Read: Wait, What? Michael Myers To Be Without Mask For Most Of ‘H2’?). Then there’s Terminator Salvation, which has had a couple of big stories regarding the movie’s ending — one involved some insanity with John Connor (Christian Bale), the other being when director McG made it very clear that some people would probably hate how the movie ends, hinting at a big cliffhanger.

/Film had the opportunity to have a little chit-chat with Mr. Zombie recently, where he cleared the air on the whole mask-less Myers rumor for everyone who was worried.

It is total bullshit. [laughs] See, I think Wayne Toth [SFX] said [70% mask-less] when you guys were down on the set. Wayne wasn’t bullshitting you, but that was taken out of context, and to an extreme [online]. We’ve filmed so much stuff and at this point nobody but me knows what we’re going to use or not use. There are more shots of Michael Myers running around in his mask in this movie than in any of the other movies.

This should be a relief to most fans. There was an image that was recently going around in which half of the iconic mask was missing…I wonder if that may have been what was meant of the original statement.

Even better, and much more insane, are the details regarding all of those Terminator Salvation ending rumors. Unfortunately, while the endings in question will not be featured in the final film, there is a chance that they will turn up on the DVD. Because of this, the spoiler warning is officially in effect!

‘Green Lantern’ Gets Pushed Back Six; May Have Its Star

Lantern

It seems like The Green Lantern — as well as The Green Hornet for that matter — have been in-development for a decade now, with forward progress strictly fueled by rumors and collapsible plans. This is no different today, as the latest news has the Lantern getting a big push-back to accompany it’s latest leading man casting rumor.

The movie is an adaptation of the classic comic book following various men who wield a ring of power. This particular project will follow ring-bearer Hal Jordan, a fighter pilot who was given his ring by a dying alien who had crashed on earth.

The Green Lantern was originally set for a December 17, 2010 release date, but considering not much has officially been taken care of, it has now been re-set for a June 17, 2011 release. This will allow the movie to find its cast, set everything in stone, and take the time to do it right instead of finding themselves in a chaos…hopefully.

McG Talks ‘Terminator Salvation’ Sequel & Fighting James Cameron

The Movie God   |  @   |

Terminator

Terminator Salvation and many fans (including myself) aren’t exactly on speaking terms right now. After the embarrassment of a PG-13 rating rained down — throwing the integrity of the entire franchise in front of the sacrificial blade of the financial profit gods — you just can’t help but feel like your girlfriend is cheating on you in front of your face while pointing and laughing for good measure.

Heartbreak aside, Film Journal International had a long chat with director McG, where they spoke about many things. Most of the conversation consisted of stories and information that have been told and re-told over the months, but some of the chat included some incredibly interesting information, including what McG is expecting the next chapter, Terminator 5, will hold. Let’s just say…some of us may not be dancing after reading it.

McG again mentions the possible inclusion of an aged Robert Patrick being included, so that sounds like a solid idea that they’re running strongly with. Aside from that, it’s all new information, and whether it’s a legit idea for the sequel, or is McG is screwing with us hard, is really yet to be seen.

Click over for more, including McG’s words.

Will Ridley Scott Make A New ‘Alien’ Movie?

Scott&Weaver

How excited would you be to find out that Ridley Scott was making a new Alien movie? Yeah, us too. Unfortunately, we’re not quite there yet, but be patient.

This is one of those stories that is so far from happening, that you really have to take it as lightly as possible and just hope and pray it becomes a reality. On the heels of the announcement that Robert Rodriguez and his Troublemaker Studios would be producing a reboot entitled Predators, it is being reported that Mr. Scott might just be pondering his involvement in a new Alien prequel.

IESB got a hold of Fox co-chairman Tom Rothman and asked him what was going on. Rothman replied:

There’s been some talk. Ridley Scott, Ridley is right now working on Robin Hood, but I think he’s toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it’s always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I’ve got my fingers crossed, all of them.

If you recall, this isn’t the first time that a new Alien movie have been discussed. A while back Sigourney Weaver spoke about how her and Scott had discussed it, and how the making of Alien vs. Predator likely killed the chances for more movies. Feel free to head over and refresh yourself on Weaver’s thoughts on the possibilities here: Sigourney Weaver Talks ‘Ghostbusters 3’ & Possibly ‘Alien 5’.
