Let’s face it, Universal’s Dark Universe was a very ambitious plan that no one really was on board for. Though contemporary takes on the classic Universal monsters sounded like a good idea on the surface, the results were anything but that. It all started with The Mummy, the Tom Cruise-starring vehicle that was supposed to launch the universe. The film performed well-below expectations, and what followed made things even worse for the potential universe. Bride of Frankenstein, directed by Bill Condon and starring Javier Bardem as the Monster and possibly Angelina Jolie as the title character, had been put on hold. Reports stated that it was to fix some of the script issues. While that may be true, it was a sign that things weren’t going well. And this latest bit may be the final nail in the coffin. According to a new report, the Dark Universe may be dead as key figures like Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are now leaving it behind, forcing Universal to rethink the interconnected monster world that they are creating. More on the story below.

| ‘The Disaster Artist’: Re-Create Your Favorite Scene From ‘The Room,’ Win The Tommy Award
There’s been whispers that The Disaster Artist, a movie about the making of Tommy Wiseau‘s infamous movie The Room starring James Franco as Wiseau, could be a contender for the upcoming Academy Awards. And as any fan of Wiseau’s movie will tell you, a movie about that movie winning a damn Oscar, well, that would just be magnificent. But while we wait to see if the movie will score any nominations, A24 has gone ahead and created their own award. It’s called the Tommy Award, and you (yes, you!) can win it. All you have to do is re-create your favorite scene from The Room…in public…and share it online for the world to see. So I won’t be winning a Tommy Award, and that makes me sad. But you (yes, YOU!) still can. Continue below to find out how, and to check out the latest trailer for The Disaster Artist.

If you and your children felt overwhelmed at New York City Comic Con last month, then I recommend saving early November for Play Fair NY. This past weekend Play Fair NY took over the Jacob Javits Center in midtown Manhattan, and gave kids of all ages a reason to be very excited about the upcoming holiday season. Play Fair NY featured interactive toy and game areas, celebrity and character meet and greets, a 13,000 pound vat of slime, a Minecraft VR learning lab, and a chance to see all the toys nominated for 2017 Toy of the Year. The best compliment I can pay Play Fair NY though, is as a parent. Both my 13-year old son and 6-year old daughter did not want to leave and they were actively playing and engaging their minds and imaginations, rather than glued to a screen. More below.

| Videos: ‘Stranger Things’ Mash-Ups With ‘Perfect Strangers,’ ‘Toy Story’
A new season of Stranger Things arrived a couple of weeks back now, so it’s prime time for some new mash-ups. We’ve seen mash-ups with Charlie Brown and Childish Gambino, as well as fellow Netflix titles Trollhunters and Mystery Science Theater 3000 in the past. Today we have a pair of new mash-ups to share with you. The first comes from Jimmy Kimmel Live, who brilliantly decided to mash-up Stranger Things with ’80s and ’90s TV sitcom Perfect Strangers—and even got stars Bronson Pinchot and Mark Linn-Baker to reprise their roles—in “Perfect Stranger Things.” The second is a mash-up with the Toy Story franchise dubbed “Stranger Things Are Happening To Me,” a play on the Randy Newman song from the first movie. Click on over to the other side to give them a watch.
