| Ron Howard To Direct Remainder Of Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff
AfterPhil Lord and Chris Miller were let go from the untitled Han Solo Star Wars spinoff over creative differences, Disney and Lucasfilm said they would be announcing their replacement soon. Ron Howard, Joe Johnston, and Lawrence Kasdan were among the top names on the shortlist of replacements. | Han Solo: Why Phil Lord, Chris Miller Left ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff; Who Could Replace Them
Yesterday, cam the shocking report that Phil Lord and Chris Miller were departing as directors of the untitled Han Solo Star Wars spinoff. With only three weeks of production left on the schedule, the timing of their departure came into question. Although Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that it was due to creative differences, it seemed very odd that they would leave at such a critical juncture of the film. Now there are new details. According to various reports, Lord and Miller were actually fired due to creative differences which stemmed from a conflict between Lawrence Kasdan, the film’s screenwriter. According to these reports, Lord and Miller’s comedic and improvisational style came into conflict with Kasdan’s by-the-script method – meaning what is on the page is what must be shot. | Philip Lord and Chris Miller Will No Longer Direct Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff
Philip Lord and Chris Miller (Jump Street films and The LEGO Movie) will no longer be directing the untitled Han Solo Star Wars spinoff. The two were named the directors of the spinoff back in July 2015, with Alden Ehrenreich taking on the iconic role just last year. That was followed by Donald Glover joining as Lando Calrissian, and Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge joining for other supporting roles. | ‘Star Wars’: Donald Glover Cast As Lando Calrissian In Han Solo Film
This deal is getting better all the time. Back in August, we reported that Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors of the upcoming Star Wars Story spin-off that follows a young Han Solo (to be played by Alden Ehrenreich), were looking at Donald Glover, star of Community, Atlanta, and The Martian and the Grammy-winning rap artist known as Childish Gambino, for the role of Han’s fellow charming scoundrel Lando Calrissian. Today, Lucasfilm has officially announced that Glover will indeed play Calrissian in the as-yet-untitled feature.

Now that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War have been released and made their respective impacts, the next highly-anticipated big screen blockbuster event of 2016 is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The first in a series of and prequels and spin-offs featuring characters and events integral to the evolution of the Star Wars universe, Rogue One tells the tale of the group of brave Rebellion soldiers who stole the plans to the Death Star that set in motion the narrative of Episode IV: A New Hope. The first trailer premiered almost two months ago to an enthusiastic worldwide response. Executives at Disney are counting on Rogue One to bring in global box office grosses equal to or greater than those of last December’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but according to a recent article by Page One’s Emily Smith, those same execs are less than thrilled with director Gareth Edwards after viewing his first cut of the film.
