Never tell Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) the odds, because the actor has just been named the new Han Solo for the upcoming Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film from directors by Chris Miller and Phil Lord. Ehrenreich had beat out 2,500 actors, with names like Dave Franco and Miles Teller, being just a few of the top names that were in the running.

There are some things you can count on Han Solo having with him at all times: a vest, charm, wit, and of course let’s not forget his trusty blaster. The legendary Star Wars character will be getting his own film as a part of the Star Wars Anthology Films or what some may know right now as the Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film. Directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the solo film has yet to find a lead actor to play the pilot of the Millennium Falcon, “the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.”

Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) is the current frontrunner, with Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction) and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Eddie The Eagle) also in consideration. Considering today is May 4, otherwise known as Star Wars Day, aside from the usual celebrations, there are a couple of teases that are being dropped here and there, and one of them has just been dropped on Twitter by Chris Miller, who posted an image of Solo’s signature weapon with an interesting hashtag. Lawrence Kasdan is the scribe behind some of Lucasfilms’ greatest films like The Empire Strikes Back, The Return Of The Jedi, and Raiders Of The Lost Ark. He’s also behind films like The Big Chill and Dreamcatcher. So when Disney acquired Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy got the scribe to co-write a script for the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The screenwriter will also be co-writing the untitled Han Solo movie with his son, Jon.
