Gabriel Ehmm is back and he’s as confused as ever. Ehmm Theory #2 is a revelatory yet unresolved entry into the miniseries from Action Lab. The recently deceased and revived Gabriel Ehmm, along with his whimsical talking cat, Mr. Whispers, along with the mysterious, old, Russian woman, Alyona, travel in pursuit of Gabriel’s father. Alyona reveals how she and her sister knew Gabriel’s father, Aaron, and the dangerous research that the three were involved in. Attacked by a giant, robotic crab and rescued by a group of super-powered beings known as the Guardians of Dimensional Defense (G.O.D.D.), Gabriel must come to terms with his new reality and figure out who to trust in his abnormal afterlife. Meanwhile, it would seem that some higher forces are concocting devious plans for Gabriel.

Free Comic Book Day

It’s time once again for another glorious Free Comic Book Day! It’s that most special day of the year when you can stroll down to your local comic book dispensary and partake in any number of comics (usually 3, unless you’re in the Underoo set, in which case most good stores will load you up), all for the price of nothing. It’s a great day to celebrate comics and to say thank you to your friendly neighborhood comic book store, and for them to say thanks to you. Many stores will be having special signings and appearances from local comic book people, or some other kind of festivities, so be sure to find a local store, even if you’re not a big comic fan. And bring the kids along if you have any. Any good store will have activates with them in mind, and you can maximize the free stuff you get if you bring a child with you.

And if you are a big fan already, try to buy something from the store you go to on Free Comic Book Day. I know that sounds like it defeats the purpose of the day, but the stores have costs associated with getting the comics they had out, and the owners sure will appreciate putting a little money in the coffers to recoup those costs.

The Molly Danger #1 comic is great place for fans of anything DIFFERENT to start with. And, I do mean DIFFERENT.

Written and drawn by Jamal Igle, this comic has something in it for everyone. Like super heroes? Check! Like giant robots? Check! Like angst and drama? Check and check! Igle has managed to include everything that you want in a comic without it seeming rushed or forced. The character of Molly Danger is a fun, playful, always looking for something to get into kind of girl. And boy does she find stuff to get into here! A charming comic that will have everyone smiling.

Double Jumpers #3Double Jumpers #3
Written by Dave Dwonch
Art by Bill Blankenship
Action Lab Comics
Release Date: October 31, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Double Jumpers #3 is the penultimate chapter of this series, and I really can’t wait to see how this series ends. Not that I want it to end, it’s just so good that I want to see how all the storylines are resolved. Like the previous two issues, this one is very entertaining, funny, and an all-around good read.

Writer Dave Dwonch turns in another very entertaining issue here, it’s on the level with the last two very funny issues. As much as the “fish out of water/body switching” story formula has been used, this series makes it as fresh as if it were the first time you were reading a story using that plot device. As the gang from our universe travels on to fulfill their quest to finish the game and get back home, the four game characters continue to reek havoc in Las Vegas. There’s a lot of twists and turns in this issue, and it really throws the audience for a loop. I can’t even imagine how this series is going to end, but I’m really looking forward to finding out.

Order of Dagonet #1 coverThe Order of Dagonet #1
Written by Jeremy Whitley
Art by Jason Strutz
Action Lab Comics
Release Date: September 26, 2012
Cover Price: $4.99

Great Britain often knights its world-renowned celebrities. This fraternity of superstars includes names such as Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ian McKellen, and Sir Elton John. Nowadays, knighthood is merely considered a great honor. It’s not as if the recipients are actually real, armor-clad knights who are duty-bound to protect the throne in times of great peril. Or are they? The Order of Dagonet presents an event of such calamitous absurdity that Britain is forced to rely on its knighted celebrities to fight back an invasion.

In this series, the Order of Dagonet is Britain’s league of celebrity knights, although official knights consider the Order something of a joke. When a construction crew clears a forest to make way for a David Beckham monument, they unwittingly remove an old tree that locked in the Creatures of Fairie. This horde of English literary characters unleashes havoc across the United Kingdom and invades Parliament. Merlin himself sends out a desperate “Help me Obi-Wan,” dream call to three Order of Dagonet members who are located in the United States at the time of the invasion. These characters are not so loosely based on Ozzy Osbourne, Sir Ian McKellen, and J.K. Rowling. The motley crew heeds Merlin’s cry for help and separately make their way back to protect the motherland.
