| Surprise! ‘Avatar 2’ Delay Means No Christmas 2017 Release
Back in 2009, James Cameron released Avatar, a tiny IMAX film that practically revolutionized visual effects. Since then, he and 20th Century Fox announced that there would be three sequels that would be released in the coming years. However, Avatar 2 has experienced quite a few delays in the past, forcing these release dates to be pushed back. And now the sequel is experiencing yet another not-so-surprising delay as reports are coming in that Avatar 2 won’t be facing Star Wars: Episode VIII in a mega geek showdown for box office glory. The latest delay comes after Disney announced that they are pushing back the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII by seven months from its May 2017 release to December 2017, just a few days before Avatar 2‘s Christmas Day release. | D23 Expo 2015: Disney Announces ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Toy Story,’ ‘Avatar’ Themed Lands
Disney delivered lots of exciting news during their D23 Expo this past weekend, but their many big announcements weren’t just related to upcoming feature film releases. The company also shared some huge news regarding their theme parks. The biggest of these announcements is that a pair of massive Star Wars themed lands are on the way, promising longtime fans of the franchise and the many new fans that upcoming movies will create alike the chance to step into a galaxy far, far away. Additionally, Disney also announced a new Toy Story themed land, an Avatar expansion, and an Iron Man experience. You can learn about all of them and see some concept art that was released below.
