Avatar Disney

You may have seen this coming, but it’s being reported that Disney Parks, James Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment, and 20th Century Fox have come to an agreement that will see Disney Parks creating theme parks based on Cameron’s Avatar, the biggest movie ever made.

The first thing up will be at Walt Disney World within the Animal Kingdom where it’s assumed a little piece of Pandora will be built “with emphasis on living in harmony with nature.” Construction on the first park is planned for sometime in 2013.

Star Wars 3DLucasfilm has announced that the first Star Wars 3D release, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, will hit theaters on February 10, 2012.

As outlined in the initial announcement on the Star Wars 3D releases, the plan is to re-release each Star Wars film newly converted to 3D every year, finishing in 2017. Both announcements from Lucasfilm have been met with mixed reactions from fans, though George Lucas has been publicly supportive of 3D technology in cinema along with James Cameron in the years leading up to his Avatar release.

In an interview with the Associated Press, actress Michelle Rodriguez, who’s out promoting her new film, Battle: Los Angeles, had some things to say about the sequel to the biggest movie ever made: Avatar 2.

In the interview, Rodriguez stated that the massive follow-up to 2009’s Avatar — which brought in almost $3 billion worldwide at the box office — would be heading underwater. She didn’t make it clear whether the entire film would be set in this environment or if would be a partial location, but she did make it clear that it is going to be “extraordinarily beautiful.”

The actress admits she’s not sure if director James Cameron will be offering her a role in the film yet, but she still hopes to at least visit and watch the blockbuster being made.

‘Avatar’ Dubbed Most Pirated Movie Of 2010

We live in a time where piracy of movies, music, and various other forms of entertainment is oft-occurring problem. But how much does it really affect the success of those it victimizes?

It’s been officially declared that Avatar, director James Cameron‘s epic movie about humans trying to extract valuable elements from an alien planet inhabited a species known as the Na’vi, is the most pirated movie of 2010. The movie has been downloaded an astonishing 16,580,000 times…on BitTorrent alone. The previous record for downloads was 2009’s Star Trek at 10.9 million, if that tells you anything.

What might be even more shocking about this number is the lack of impact it seemed to have on the movie’s box office run. With an estimated budget of around $300 million, it was feared — though it sounds silly now — that the movie might be destined to flop, but it wasn’t long before Avatar was shattering records. Domestically, the movie brought in $760,507,625 (destroying Cameron’s other seemingly untouchable Titanic, which long sat at over $600 million), while overseas box office delivered $2,019,044,242, putting it very close to hitting $3 billion worldwide.

James Cameron To Direct ‘Avatar 2′ & Avatar 3’ Next With 2014, 2015 Release Dates

We’ve heard plenty about the easy-choice sequels to Avatar, including that it was possible that director James Cameron might just film them back-to-back in order to cut costs and get them in theaters much sooner. Aside from that, it was unclear when these might happen and even whether these two sequels would be Cameron’s next project or not.

To settle all of that 20th Century Fox has put out an official announcement that Cameron will in fact direct Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 next up, with hopes to begin production by late 2011. It’s still unclear whether or not the two films will be shot back-to-back, but with planned release dates in 2014 and one year later in 2015, you’d have to assume that it’s very, very likely. All that needs to be done is a little production math: it took Cameron years just to get the record-breaking Avatar in theaters, and a 2011-2014 job planned, it’d be a tad crazy to think he could somehow find a way to squeeze in the third film in under a year.
