Unbreakable starring Samuel L. Jackson

When it was announced that Lionsgate would be rebooting Saw based on an original idea from Chris Rock, most laughed at the idea. But the franchise will be bringing back some key players. The original creators of the franchise, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, executive produce alongside Daniel Heffner and Rock. Additionally, Darren Lynn Bousman, who directed Saw II, Saw III, and Saw IV, would be helming. And Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, who penned the last entry of the Saw franchise, would be writing the script.

Now the reboot, which promises take the horror series to an “intense and twisted new place,” is adding some major star power. According to new reports, Glass and Spider-Man: Far From Home star Samuel L. Jackson will be joining the cast. More on the report below.

Saw Movie

Like a good horror villain, the Saw franchise refuses to die.

It’s been announced that the franchise is being rebooted with a new entry in 2020, and someone quite unexpected is behind its resurrection: Chris Rock. Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures have teamed up with Rock for the reboot, which he says will take the horror series to an “intense and twisted new place.”

NYCHFF 2016 Logo

For the 14th straight year, the New York City Horror Film Festival (NYCHFF) opened last night. Started by the late Michael J. Hein, the NYCHFF is the largest and most recognized film festival to deal solely in the horror and sci-fi genres. It is running through Sunday, November 13th at the Cinepolis Chelsea, 260 West 23rd Street, in Manhattan. The festival screens approximately 50-60 films each year, welcomes horror legends, and honors the best work with an award ceremony. After a fairly disappointing week, I showed up last night to take in six (!) total horror films: two very good feature films, and four incredible shorts.

Check it out below.

Horror is a genre that lends itself to anthology probably better than any; whether it be short story compilations from the greats of the genre, from Lovecraft and Poe, to Barker and King, or classic cinematic anthologies like Trilogy of Terror and Tales From the Crypt. These have paved the way for a new generation of short story style scare films. Collections like Trick ‘r Treat (2007), and the more recent V/H/S and ABC’s of Death series have provided fans of blood and gore a wealth of fun times. If you’re a fan of any of those above mentioned films, then Tales of Halloween is definitely worth your time and money.
