George A. Romero's Day of the Dead

Fans of king of the zombies George A. Romero‘s 1985 undead favorite Day of the Dead probably weren’t huge fans of the remake that was released in 2008. Now, only five years later, another remake is in development.

The new take is being developed by new genre production company Vicarious Entertainment, which comes from Paris Kasidokostas-Latsis and Terry Dougas of 1821 Pictures, who was behind the oft-troubled Natalie Portman project Jane Got A Gun and who are developing the strange take on Homer’s The Odyssey set in space that once had Brad Pitt and George Miller attached.

From The Producers Of ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ Comes Another Remake Of George Romero’s ‘Day Of The Dead’

Day of the Dead

Remakes. I’ve never been entirely opposed to their existence. Several of my favorite movies were technically remakes. I just feel that there should be a statute of limitations when it comes to when a certain film is remade….as in, not more than once a decade.

George Romero‘s Day of the Dead, one of the most gruesome horror films of the 1980s and possibly the last truly great zombie movie the director ever made (Land of the Dead had moments though), is being remade. Those of you with photographic memories will remember fondly when Day got the redux treatment just five years ago under the direction of Steve Miner (Friday the 13th Parts II and III in 3-D) with a cast that included Mena Suvari, Nick Cannon, and Ving Rhames.

The 10 Best Unproduced Comic Book Movie Scripts #1: George Romero’s ‘Copperhead’

Batman Vs. Superman

Greetings all. BAADASSSSS! here with the first of a series of new articles I will be posting each week this summer: The 10 Best Unproduced Comic Book Movie Scripts!

If you haven’t checked out my bloated, nerdgasm of an introduction as well as a complete week-by-week breakdown of clues to each entry on this list you can do so here.

For the inaugural entry I have chosen a subject that is particularly special in that this movie that was never made was based on a comic book character that was created explicitly for the purpose of becoming a movie…that was never made. Once that didn’t happen the superhero faded into oblivion, leaving behind only the vague recollections of those involved in its making and ultimate unmaking along with some impressive concept art that gives us a pretty good notion of what might have been.

George Romero’s Classic ‘Knightriders’ Available Now On Blu-ray In The UK

Knightriders

In 1981, maverick Pittsburgh filmmaker George Romero, still hot off the smashing worldwide success of his full-color zombie horror epic Dawn of the Dead, made the most personal movie of his career: Knightriders. An intimate and action-packed story of a traveling troupe of artists, actors, and stunt riders who engage in jousting matches on souped-up motorcycles, Knightriders was the first major screen role for future star Ed Harris and overcame lackluster box office and initial audience reception to become a cult classic that continues to endure as one of Romero’s finest movies more than three decades later.

British home entertainment outfit Arrow Video has granted Knightriders its first release on Blu-ray in the entire civilized this month and is celebrating the occasion in high style by giving the movie a full restoration and some new in-depth supplements. (A new Knightriders Blu-ray will be out this July for the U.S.)

Originally Released: October 16, 2012

Night of the Living Dead: Re-animation is a prequel to a remake. You read that correctly, it is a prequel to a remake of Night of the Living Dead. And the end result is as tacky as it sounds. In fact, it’s so tacky, it’s terrible. Even Russo’s Return of the Living Dead series had some nice slapstick humor to refresh the load; in Re-animation, we’re stuck with a movie that amounts to nothing more than a stale fart. Though coupled with a few good performances and some reasonable CGI zombie effects, the plot is deficient in much substance and the social commentary is laughably bad.

Set before the events of 2007’s Night of the Living Dead 3D, Re-animation aims to give the back story of how it all began. Despite the goal, the movie does very little to accomplish this, being more of a standalone weird zombie flick than just has the classic movie titled tacked on. The tale begins in a mortuary, where corpses become reanimated into zombies. And that’s about as much of the plot I want to describe, simply because this movie has wasted enough of my time as it is.

Start the geek freak outs now.

Zombie Research is reporting (with a hat tip to Bleeding Cool for hunting this down) that George A. Romero is currently working on adapting the Steven Schlozman novel, The Zombie Autopsies, with the author at his side.

The film will follow the story of scientist Dr. Stanley Blum, a man infected by, but also attempting to cure, a zombie virus It’s told through his journal entries, and is apparently quite elaborate in its descriptions of things.
