Will J.J. Abrams Be Able To Avoid Filming ‘Star Trek 2’ In 3D?

It always warms my heart to hear that another decent filmmaker isn’t interested in shooting a huge franchise movie in 3D, especially when that filmmaker is J.J. Abrams and the franchise is Star Trek.

Abrams said Paramount approached him about shooting the sequel to his 2009 revamped Star Trek film in 3D, but he wasn’t very enthusiastic about the idea, according to a recent interview.

“I have nothing against 3D in theory. But I’ve also never run to the movies because something’s in 3D,” Abrams told NY Mag. “[As for Trek], as soon as I read the script, if it says, ‘Somebody pushes a weapon toward the camera in a menacing way,’ and we think, ‘That’d be better in 3D!’… I dunno.”

During a press conference in Dubai, Tom Cruise decided to reveal the new title for the fourth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, and as with many titles these days, it may have some fans scratching their heads.

Cruise said “One of the things I always wanted for the franchise was for it not to have a number afterwards. I’ve never done sequels to films and I never thought of these films as sequels. Paramount has done a great job in coming up with a title, so it’s not going to be MI2, 3, 4: It’s going to be Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol.”

Alumni of the adventure that was LOST have had no trouble getting back to work after the beloved series ended this past May.

Daniel Dae Kim took the easiest route by simply staying in Hawaii and joining the cast of CBS’s Hawaii Five-O, but a couple of others have now joined film projects. We found out yesterday that Maggie Grace would be jumping into The Twilight Saga (Read: “˜LOST’ Star Maggie Grace Joins The Cast Of “˜The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’), and now fan-favorite Josh Holloway has been cast in another high-profile sequel.

NBC Picks Up J.J. Abrams’ Series With ‘LOST’ Stars Michael Emerson & Terry O’Quinn

After the end of LOST, which still has many of us in a deep depression, it was joked that stars Michael Emerson (Benjamin Linus) and Terry O’Quinn (John Locke) should get a show together. That joke was a little more than a joke, and it was recently revealed that producer J.J. Abrams was revving up to pitch a brand new show featuring Emerson and O’Quinn to networks.

Apparently the pitch was well-received, with news now that NBC has won a bidding war — which did include Lost network ABC coming close — landing them the series. Not many details have been revealed about the show, which is currently being called Odd Jobs, but it is said to feature the two actors as former special ops agents. Maybe something along the lines of the movie Red, with retired agents still doing jobs on the side?

Not since May have we heard anything significant regarding the ultra-secretive new project from director J.J. Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg, called Super 8. Back then it was the release of the unique teaser trailer (Read: Watch Now! Teaser Trailer For J.J. Abrams & Steven Spielberg’s “˜Super 8″² Released), which did its job in grabbing our attentions, but was also created before any actors were even cast.

The movie had remained uncast since the release of the teaser, until now of course. Two new talents have joined the film in Kyle Chandler, who’s best known for his head coach role on TV’s Friday Night Lights and from Peter Jackson’s King Kong, and Elle Fanning, the younger sister of Dakota Fanning who’s done plenty of acting herself, including The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and the upcoming holiday film, The Nutcracker in 3D.
