Who do you call if the world’s greatest heroes go bad? That’s the question that Director Amanda Waller poses to Colonel Steve Trevor in the first few pages of Justice League Of America, Volume 1: World’s Most Dangerous. Deciding to build a response team is easy enough, but filling the roster is something far more difficult.

Kicking things off, they start the list off with Hawkman (one of my favorite of the DC Comics bunch) who is known for his brutality as much as for his moral code. The next addition is Katana, whose sword is far more than just steel. Next up they bring in Vibe, a hero that we haven’t heard about in decades (this version is a reboot, not the original one from yesteryear). Curiously, Waller insists adding Stargirl and her powerful Cosmic Staff, though not quite in the capacity you might think. The true powerhouse of this team is the always adaptable Martian Manhunter, though getting him on the team was more than a little work. To keep things balanced, Waller also has the new Green Lantern and Green Arrow on the team roster. But Trevor has an addition of his own, the always dangerous Catwoman. Not to be a public member of the team, she is intended for the behind the scenes and under the table jobs that pop up.

The GoD List banner

Each and every week, I, “Wing Zero” Henchman21, and “Deathscythe Hell Custom” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of July 17, 2013. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

The prodigal son, MK2Fac3, returns for this week’s installment, and surprise! – he’s talking about Batman. Plus, the Empress and I make our journey out to San Diego for a certain comic convention. As it happens, it looks like it’s a DC heavy week this time, because there are a ton of awesome comics from them this week and very few of them deal with Pandora or Trinities or anything like that. And, don’t forget Red Sonja #1 by Gail Simone, which we’re all looking forward to. There’s going to be plenty of comic news coming out of the convention, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have time for The GoD List!

Each and every week, I, “Lawful Neutral” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

It is a big week this time and I’m making up for taking last week off. Hey, I get vacations from time to time, but there are just too many books to talk about. We’ve got a couple of high profile first issues, a sad farewell to a classic series, a new issue for my favorite series currently running, and some other stuff. Let’s not waste anymore time, it’s GoD List time!

Digital Comics Deal: Comixology’s Grant Morrison Sale

Morrison Sale

Oh my! Oh my! Comixology is having a Grant Morrison sale! For a mere 99 cents a piece, you can pick up several of Grant Morrison’s finest DC/Vertigo comics, including Doom Patrol, Batman, All-Star Superman, and more.

What’s the catch? Well, let’s get into that. Barely any of the comics on sale will provide you with a full story. While you may be teased by the mention of Batman R.I.P., Batman and Robin, and Batman Incorporated, the first thing you need to realize is that this isn’t the entire run. If you’re not reading Batman and Son or Club of Heroes, then the rest of this run won’t make any sense. But beyond that, the entire run of Batman and Robin that leads directly into Batman Incorporated is not in this sale. If you want to do that, you’re going to want to buy the regularly priced Batman and Robin #10-16. So, if you’re wanting to check this out, I really suggest you go back to Batman #655 and start from there and keep going. You won’t regret it, it’s one of the finest runs on Batman, for sure.

ISSUES

secret sixSecret Six #32 (DC Comics – $2.99)Secret Six is easily one of my favorite ongoing series, so don’t be surprised when you see this book on my list every month. Not enough people read this book, and that’s a crime. It’s one of the most consistently awesome comics to come out on a regular basis, and this current storyline is no exception. In this second issue of the current story arc, writer Gail Simone takes the Secret Six into Hell to solve one of the most exciting story lines that was set up at the very beginning of the series. This series continues to be a “can’t miss,” so don’t miss it!

Chew #18 (Image Comics – $2.99)Chew is another one of those books that you don’t want to miss out on. I’ve read this series from the beginning, and although you need to read the entire series, each issue does have a catch-up prologue to explain what the series is about. It’s a really quirky title that’s a blast to read every month with great writing and art. It never disappoints, and with the recent announcement that Showtime will be adapting the series to a television show, you should really get in when you can.
