We’re all still a little wiped out from the holiday weekend, but that doesn’t mean comics get to take any time off. Nope, the business keeps rolling on and that means we have to keep up with all these recommendations for all the best comics out this week. Do we get a vacation? Aww, hecks no. So let’s dive into this big pile of not leftovers on this week’s GoD List.

It looks like that MacGyver movie is coming closer to hitting theaters than originally thought. Development for the film has been quiet as of late, but New Line Cinema is now in talks with Saw and Insidious director James Wan to helm the big screen adaptation.

The film is using a script drafted by Jason Richman and polished by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn (yes the two are related to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn). The talks come on the heels of Warner Bros. pushing up the release date for Wan’s supernatural horror flick The Conjuring. Apparently test audiences are responding positively to the film, which is why the studio made such a move.

Then, there’s cases where the creative team is dead on perfect for the property and everything meshes into a beautiful blend of a great story, awesome art, and it makes pretty much the perfectly enjoyable comic book. It’s a big week of comics as Marvel NOW! kicks off and a the Joker returns to torture Batman, among many other things which I’m sure are also happening in any number of books. There are a ton of books to get this week, including one very special book. So find a paper clip, some chewing gum, and a couple of rubber bands, and make some kind of space ship to take you to your nearest comic retailer, because it’s time for the GoD List!

Yes, the SNL sketch-turned feature-length movie MacGruber was a spoof on the popular ’80s and ’90s TV series, MacGyver. And though it’s not doing the best at the box office right now, consensus seems to be that it is quite the hilarious movie. But did you know that an actual MacGyver movie was being developed as well?

New Line Cinema has hired Jason Richman to begin work on a script for the movie adaptation of the television series. The series, which starred Richard Dean Anderson, ran from 1985 to 1992 on ABC and followed a brilliant secret agent who was able to infiltrate and escape any place and situation, no matter how difficult or how little resources that he had available to him. Anderson also appeared in a couple of TV movies and in some of the MacGruber sketches.
