San Andreas

You might have assumed that a massive disaster flick like last year’s San Andreas was one of those rare blockbusters that wouldn’t get a sequel, even if it was a hit. You underestimate Hollywood. The movie was a huge hit, making nearly half a billion dollars worldwide, and it has now been confirmed that a sequel is officially in the works.

New Line is developing the sequel, and has hired the writing duo of Neil Widener and Gavin James to work on the screenplay. Carlton Cuse penned the first movie’s screenplay based on a story by Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore. Additionally, the cast of the first movie including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, and Paul Giamatti are all expected to return for the sequel. Director Brad Peyton is also expected to return.

Pennywise in Stephen King's It

A couple of months ago Cary Fukunaga spoke for the first time about why he departed a planned two-movie adaptation of Stephen King‘s horror novel It after dedicating three years of his life to developing it. An adaptation that fans of the book were very excited about—rare for something with a popular existing adaptation—after seeing Fukunaga’s work directing the first season of HBO’s True Detective.

At the time Fukunaga didn’t reveal much, only that he and New Line Cinema did not see eye to eye on what kind of movie they wanted it to be. But now the director has spoken on the subject once again, offering a much more detailed account of what went down, and those who were devastated to see him depart the project (movie fans, to be more specific) will not be happy to read what they’re about to read.

Rampage

Earlier this month we found out that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was set to star in a remake of John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China.

Now comes word that Johnson will also be starring in Rampage, a movie adaptation of the classic arcade game of the same name. Exact plot details for the movie haven’t been shared yet, but the game sees you wreaking havoc on a city as one of three monsters—a very King Kong-like gorilla, a very Godzilla-like lizard, and a giant werewolf—so you can probably get a decent idea of where they’re going with it just based on that.

Pennywise in Stephen King's It

In Hollywood, directors and actors become attached to projects only to eventually drop out of those projects almost as often as studios shift their upcoming movies’ release dates. It happens all the time, and so usually it’s easy for a movie fan to shrug it off and get on with their day. But this one…this one stings. A lot.

It’s being reported that Cary Fukunaga has walked away from the two-movie adaptation of Stephen King‘s massive horror tome It that he’s been working on for multiple years now. The devastating turn of events for those who have been eagerly awaiting what Fukunaga’s take on the horror classic might look like comes after the director reportedly clashed with studio New Line Cinema on numerous occasions.

Pennywise in Stephen King's It

The terrifying being known simply as “It” from Stephen King’s It, which has haunted most people’s childhood in its most familiar form, Pennywise the Clown (played memorably by Tim Curry in the 1990 TV miniseries adaptation), has been cast for the upcoming new movie adaptation of the book…and it is without a doubt an actor far, far away from the actors you were thinking might be cast.

It’s being reported that Will Poulter, the 22-year-old British actor best known for his roles in the comedy We’re the Millers and The Maze Runner, is in negotiations to play Pennywise.
