| SDCC 2010: ‘Paul’ Panel With Simon Pegg, Nick Frost & Seth Rogen (With Video) |
 |
The cast of Paul, the upcoming sci-fi comedy by Superbad director Greg Mottola and written by the film’s stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, took to the stage at 2010 San Diego Comic-Con to debut a special clip reel made specifically for the fans in attendance. This can be somewhat verified by the fact that it wasn’t censored for the general viewing audience due to the few instances of well-timed cursing.
The video opened with a loud pop from the crowd as they showed fanboys Clive Gollings (Frost) and Graeme Willy (Pegg) in the San Diego Convention Center for Comic-Con. The two are on a journey to Roswell, New Mexico, where they encounter a classic-style gray alien named Paul, voiced by Seth Rogen. The trio are being chased by Special Agent Lorenzo Zoil (Jason Bateman) and Agent Haggard (Bill Hader) and accidentally kidnap Ruth Buggs, played by Kristen Wiig. With the exception of Wiig, the aforementioned actors sat on the panel along with Sigourney Weaver, Jeffrey Tambor, and Joe Lo Truglio — who actually stood in during the portions of the film that contained the CGI Paul.

By Obi-Dan

This new feature series, awesome reader, is a celebration of the greatest achievements our beloved small screen has to offer. This is not a list nor a countdown to the greatest TV show of all time. There will be no chronological elitism. The choices will not be based on viewing figures or awards or the amount of episodes produced. There will be no out-of-work comedians you have never heard of telling you what they remember of the show via talking heads.
Every show chosen will, in probably many ways, be completely brilliant — some obvious, some surprising, but all rather good in their own way. So join me as we delve into the curious little box — or enormous, wafer-thin, wall-mounted time-sucker; whatever your situation may be — and peek at the joys it beams into our hungry eyes and discover the The Greatest TV Shows Ever, starting with a little series called Spaced Spaced is the geekiest show that has ever been on television. There are other shows about geeks or that have flashes of geekery (it’s a word? Well, it is now), maybe even a whole episode devoted to our beloved movies or comic books. But Spaced is the best example of a TV comedy series made for geeks by geeks. It feels like one big in-joke, one that you have with your geeky friends. Everything from One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest to The A-Team, via Grease and Fight Club get the Spaced treatment.

| The Decade List: The 59 Best Films Of The Past Ten Years – The Final Chapter |
 |
NOTE: For structural reasons and to ensure that this list is super-duper pretty at all times, we’ll be posting this same intro for all sections of The Decade List. If you’ve already read all of this, you can just head down to the continuation of our list!
Let’s just get it out of the way right off the ol’ bat: yes, we know it’s been a few months since we left the decade. Most folks undertook this heavy task pre-2010, but we decided that it would be a little bit better to let the new year settle in a bit before hitting you with something of this magnitude. So here we are, geeks: we’ve officially arrived in FUTURE *cue retro ’50s sci-fi music* and still we have no freakin’ flying cars yet. What’s the deal with that? While it is pretty exciting to be inside of the year 2010 — a year that always seemed unreachable to us mere mortals — we are also exiting another entire decade that leaves us staring at one majorly epic task. That task? To search, dig, locate, retrieve, organize, polish, and present the very best films of the past ten years! We must once again declare that this list is also simply opinion. You are are without doubt going to find movies here that you hate and do not think deserve to be included. You will surely think of movies that you think should not only be on here, but that should be at the very top of the list. There will even be some that I have not seen and thus, can not add. Even at this very moment, I sit, worrying and wondering if I’ve forgotten any that I would include; that’s just the way things fly when compiling something this massive. With all of that said, we invite you in to relax and check out our Final Chapter of The Decade List: The 59 Best Films of the Past Ten Years!

| Hollywood Stars Re-Create Their Own Classic Film Moments |
 |

Empire Magazine celebrated their 20th anniversary a while back, and they made sure to do it proper. Many big news stories and goodies came from the event, but one of the big plans they hatched, was to attempt to book a bunch of the world’s biggest Hollywood stars for a photo shoot where they would re-create some of their own classic film scenes. The result: big stars showed up. Lot’s of them. And though they didn’t get completely dressed in costume (the plan was to simply shoot them in nice attire with obvious props used to clarify the film), many fantastic images now exist. The list of names is impressive and includes Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Mel Gibson, Laurence Fishburne, Ben Stiller, Viggo Mortensen, Kevin Spacey, Matt Damon, Anthony Hopkins, and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, naturally! Movies that were re-created include Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Braveheart, The Matrix, Sev7en, Silence of the Lambs, Jurassic Park, and Shaun of the Dead. Click over to the other side to check out some of the images we were quite smitten with; head over to Empire in order to see many more, including a lot more stars and movies not mentioned here!

| Geek Peek: First Image Of Simon Pegg & Nick Frost In ‘Paul’ |
 |

The first official image from the new Simon Pegg and Nick Frost movie Paul has been spotted at Universal Studios, snapped, and sent to Collider. Some images from the set had been seen, but nothing from the actual movie, so for someone visiting Universal to see this giant image hanging outside is a tad odd, but still good for all of us! Click the image at right to see it in full. Paul is purely a fanboy movie with Pegg and Frost starring as loyal geeks on a road trip to Comic Con who encounter an alien while near Area 51. The movie is directed by Greg Mottola, who is known for his instant comedy classic Superbad, as well as the recent Adventureland. The movie also stars Seth Rogen as the alien they meet, which will be created using motion capture. It’s also said that the alien will spit a lot of foul language in true Rogen form and that the movie will likely be R-rated. Rounding it all out will be Jason Bateman, Bill Hader, Dave Koechner, Sigourney Weaver, Blythe Danner, and Kristen Wiig. Click on over to read the official synopsis from What Is Paul? where you can also go and see a ton of behind the scenes images.
