Three tales of terror are waiting for you to discover them in the anthology horror movie, Body Bags. The first two tales, “The Gas Station” and “Hair” are directed by John Carpenter, while the final segment, “Eye,” is directed by Tobe Hooper. The script was brought to the attention of producer Sandy King by a pair of new writers who would go on to write for several “˜tween horror television series including Goosebumps and R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour.

In “The Gas Station,” a young woman’s first night on the job as a gas station attendant covering the graveyard shift is continuously interrupted by a barrage of creatures of the night, including a machete-wielding madman.

That’s no-nonsense June Squibb (About Schmidt), who plays a salt-of-the-Earth Midwestern wife in Nebraska, an affectionate and resonate comedy-drama about family dysfunction.

Directed by Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Descendants), the black-and-white film stars Bruce Dern as Woody Grant, a man with dementia from Billings, Montana who is convinced he’s won a million dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize.

His son, David (Will Forte, MacGruber), begrudgingly agrees to drive him to Lincoln, Nebraska to claim his winnings. Along the way, father and son visit Woody’s birthplace for an impromptu family reunion where David learns all about his estranged father’s troubled past.

Beautifully shot and brilliantly written, Nebraska is a devastatingly authentic portrait of fathers and sons and the space between them. Alexander Payne is a humanist filmmaker; he cares deeply for his characters no matter their flaws. You know these people – they’re your parents, your siblings – they’re part of your life, for better or worse.

Ever since Sin City: A Dame To Kill For went into production, director Robert Rodriguez has continued to expand his mighty impressive ensemble cast on a weekly basis. Last week Eva Green signed on to play Ava Lord, the titular dame at the center of the action, and today we have word that the movie’s main villain has been cast. Stacy Keach, the veteran character actor with a career that spans more than five decades in film, theater, and television, has joined A Dame to Kill For as the crime boss Wallenquist, described by Sin City creator Frank Miller as “the one man who can’t be redeemed in Sin City. He is pure evil.”

Now this movie has become a must-see as far as this writer is concerned. Keach has long been one of my favorite actors and he has an acting resume that even the biggest male movie star in Hollywood wishes they had. He got his start in the late 1950s on the syndicated comedy series How to Marry a Millionaire, but it took nearly ten years for him to make the leap to feature film acting. Keach was one of the most in-demand actors of the 1970s with roles in movies like Brewster McCloud, The New Centurions, John Huston’s brilliant boxing drama Fat City, the cult classic action-comedy The Dion Brothers, and the Jim Thompson adaptation The Killer Inside Me. Fans of the Cheech and Chong movies will recognize him as the doping duo’s police nemesis Sgt. Stedanko in Up in Smoke and Nice Dreams.

The Bourne franchise proves that no matter how many movies or entries there are, you will only know less than half of the real story. A new trailer has emerged for The Bourne Legacy, and it gives a clearer picture of the characters surrounding the very people involved in the project that made Bourne the dangerous amnesia spy that he is (or was) today. Jeremy Renner takes the main character mantle as he begins to be caught up in the conspiracy involving the people behind the Tredstone project. Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach, and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn, and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

The gritty, globe-trotting action franchise inspired by the novels of the late Robert Ludlum seemed to have wrapped up with 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum, which was star Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass’ farewell to the series that made them both household names in Hollywood. But never underestimate a studio’s willingness to exploit a viable cash cow for every penny its worth.
