The GoD List banner

Each and every week, I, “I am Iron Man” Henchman21, and “Stop Saying That” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of May 8, 2013. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

I hope you all had a pleasant Free Comic Book Day, but there’s no rest around here. It’s another week and we’ve got another stack of new books for you to check out. This week has a whole heap of demons and monsters, with some good old fashioned mutants mixed in for good measure. But fear not, reading this week’s selections won’t make you a bad person. Quite the opposite, actually. The only thing that will make you a bad person is if you choose to ignore this week’s GoD List!

Check It Out: The Unused ‘Iron Man 3’ Opening Credits Sequence

Iron Man 3 Banner

Over the weekend, Iron Man 3 grossed over $175 million at the box office. I guess it’s safe to say that the latest installment in the franchise that launched Marvel Studios as one of the dominant forces in the entertainment industry is a bonafide blockbuster – Our own FamousMonster shares his opinions on the movie here – and we shall see more adventures of Tony Stark and his armored alter ego on the screen in the years to come. Hopefully, star Robert Downey Jr. will be there most of the way.

That’s just groovy. After the overhyped wet noodle that was Iron Man 2 – a heavily compromised production that also served as an abject lesson for how Marvel prioritizes its future cinematic projects from there on – it was great to see an Iron Man sequel that not only held its own with the spectacular 2008 original, but even managed its own sizable share of epic action sequences to rival the finale of last year’s The Avengers. Fanboys cried foul over how certain characters were handled, but on the whole I thought director Shane Black was the perfect person to resurrect ol’ Shellhead as a force to be reckoned with among modern movie heroes. I will say no more because right now you should drop what you are doing and go see Iron Man 3.

*Recently an unknown source posted screen grabs from an beautiful animated opening credits sequence that was created but ultimately discarded from the final cut of Iron Man 3 in favor of opening with narration from Downey. You can view a complete gallery of those grabs here below.

Iron Man Image

With Iron Man 3 set to arrive in theaters at the end of the week (stay tuned for our review), fans are wondering what the future holds for Mr. Tony Stark, who’s played, of course, by Robert Downey Jr., who’s lengthy contract with Marvel is coming to a close.

Recently Iron Man co-star Gwyneth Paltrow said that there would not be an Iron Man 4, and though this is by no means an official, it does have everyone wondering what the future holds. We all know The Avengers 2 is on the way, and though not yet confirmed, it’s assumed that Downey Jr. has to be involved one way or another. But the actor also confirmed recently that he was paid a mind melting $50 million for playing Stark in the first Avengers, so he obviously does not come at a price that makes it easy for the studios to keep him locked up. Basically, the man has lots and lots of leverage right now.

Downey Jr. visited Jon Stewart on The Daily Show this week and the host asked about where things stood on the future of Iron Man. Continue below now to find out what he said and to see a video of the chat.

Joss Whedon

While attending the Hollywood red carpet premiere of Iron Man 3, Yahoo Movies caught up with Joss Whedon, writer-director of Marvel’s The Avengers to discuss the status of the highly anticipated 2015 sequel.

In the video, which you can see below, Whedon confirmed that he recently finished a first draft of the script for The Avengers 2, and that “we’re in a really good place.”

And then, Whedon dropped this little bit of info…

Michael Rooker

In the greatest, and somehow most obvious, comic movie casting news since Arnold Schwarzenegger was announced as Mr. Freeze (Sarcasm folks), Michael Rooker has signed on to co-star in James Gunn‘s star-spanning Marvel superhero epic Guardians of the Galaxy. Before you say, “Oh he has to be playing a villain” stop right there and read on! The mighty Rook will be playing the role of Yondu Udonta. Those of you familiar with the character will know that Yondu is a member of the team. He is a Guardian.

So there you go. Michael Rooker, who has played both heroes and villains in his colorful acting career, has joined the Marvel Movie Universe, and best of all he’s playing one of the good guys. The character of Yondu is described as “a game hunter of a primitive tribe native to Centauri IV, the first planet system to be colonized outside of the Sun’s solar system” who bands together with other intergalactic fugitives to form the titular team.
