| Neil Patrick Harris, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Join ‘The Matrix 4’; Jada Pinkett Smith In Talks To Return |
 |

We’ve been hearing about a new installment in the Matrix franchise for some time now. Back in 2011 star Keanu Reeves said that sequels were being developed. Then in 2014 it was rumored that the next Matrix movies could be prequels. Then in 2017 came word that Warner Bros. was developing a reboot instead of sequels or prequels, which was followed a few days later by a denial of the reboot news from screenwriter Zak Penn, who had been hired to work on a new movie in the franchise at the time. Things were quiet for a couple of years after that, but in August of this year it was confirmed that The Matrix 4 was finally becoming a reality with original stars Reeves and Carrie Ann Moss returning. Lana Wachowski, who wrote and directed the original trilogy with Lilly Wachowski, is also returning though it doesn’t appear that Lilly is involved at the moment.. And now, more casting has been announced. Last week Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was cast in the sequel, and this week Neil Patrick Harris signed on. Jada Pinkett Smith is also in talks to return.

| Zoe Kravitz Joins ‘The Batman’ As Catwoman
It has been somewhat of a long and winding road for WB’s next Batman standalone film. Considering all of the setbacks that they had to go through and the difficulties launching it with Ben Affleck’s short-lived stint as the character, you can’t really blame the studio for wanting to take a fresh approach. And hopefully, they will be getting that from writer and director Matt Reeves‘ tentatively titled The Batman. The film has already cast Robert Pattinson as the world’s greatest detective, and if all goes according to plan, he will be joined by Jeffrey Wright, who will play Commissioner Gordon, and Jonah Hill who could be playing either the Riddler or the Penguin. But as they get all of their talks straightened out, it looks like the film will be adding a heroine to the mix. According to new reports, Zoe Kravitz will be playing Catwoman. More on that below.

| Warner Bros. Says That ‘Joker’ Is Not “An Endorsement Of Real-World Violence” |
 |

As with any studio film that features heavy doses of violence, there is a concern that it might encourage others to inflict the same sort of violence they see on screen in real life. That is what happened on July 20, 2012, in Aurora, Colorado, when a man wearing full body armor and armed with multiple guns, including an assault rifle, shot and killed 12 people and injured 70 others during a showing of The Dark Knight Rises. Director Todd Phillips‘ Batman spinoff Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, presents a darker and grittier take of the DC world, one that will see a lot of gun violence. Due to the violent nature of the film those close to the victims of the Aurora shootings are speaking out, not to boycott the film, but instead to ask Warner Bros. to donate to groups that aid victims of gun violence. To this WB responded with a statement, in which they made it clear that the film is not “an endorsement of real-world violence.” More on the report below.
