Talks are in the early stages, but it’s being reported that Sharlto Copley has been offered the role of the villain in director Spike Lee‘s remake of the classic Korean film Oldboy.
Copley would join Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen on the movie, which tells the story of a man who’s kidnapped and held captive for 15 years without an explanation as to why he was taken. While prisoner he only has a TV to keep up with the times, quickly learning that his wife has been murdered and that he’s the prime suspect. One day he’s released with only a suit, some money, and a cell phone, finally allowing him to begin his quest to find out who did this to him, why, and how to get his revenge.
Copley is of course best known for his role as Wikus Van De Mewre in the fantastic District 9. He also appeared in the recent movie version of The A-Team.
The original Oldboy is based on a Japanese manga, and was directed by Park Chan-wook. It stars Choi Min-sik, Yu Ji-tae, and Kang Hye-jeong.
