HBO has officially decided to give one of their new series, The Leftovers, a second season.
The show comes from LOST co-creator and co-showrunner Damon Lindelof, and is based on the book by Tom Perrotta. It follows people trying to move on after a Rapture-like event sees almost 200 million people disappearing without a trace.
President of HBO Programming, Michael Lombardo, made the announcement, said of the announcement:
â€œWe are thrilled to bring back THE LEFTOVERS for a second season with the exceptional talents of Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta. It has been truly exciting to see the overwhelming response to their provocative and original storytelling. We look forward to continuing the journey as the show delves deeper into the lives of those who remain.â€
Currently in the middle of its debut season after premiering on June 29th, the show stars Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Carrie Coon, Emily Meade, Amanda Warren, Ann Dowd, Michael Gaston, Max and Charlie Carver, and Annie Q.
The first season finale is set to air on September 7th.
