After being one of the names said to be in the running for the role of Luke Cage in the upcoming TV series coming to Netflix, Marvel has confirmed that Mike Colter has officially been cast in the role.
Colter will first play Cage in the Jessica Jones series A.K.A. Jessica Jones, which will star Krysten Ritter in the title role, before moving on to lead his own series.
Of the announcement Melissa Rosenberg, who will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, had this to say:
“Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage. We’re excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life.”
With Marvel’s Head of Television and executive producer Jeph Loeb adding:
“Fans have longed to see Luke Cage and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor. Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in “˜Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.”
In addition to the Jessica Jones and Luke Cage series, Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox) and Iron Fist will also have their own 13-episode seasons. After that, all four characters will come together for a Defenders miniseries.
Colter can currently be seen in the Xbox original series Halo: Nightfall as Jameson Locke. He’s also starred in Men in Black 3, Zero Dark Thirty, The Following, and The Good Wife.
