Why Hank Pym Isn’t In ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’; Ultron’s Powers Dialed Down

Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron

In the Marvel comics, Hank Pym used his brain patterns to create Ultron, an artificial intelligence cyborg that would become sentient and develop an Oedipus Complex. It is nearly indestructible, and adapts itself with new upgrades after each defeat. So to have the titular character as the lead villain in Avengers: Age of Ultron, it would seem that our heroes were destined to lose this battle.

With Ant-Man also set for release this summer, you would think that there would be some sort of connection between the two. But as Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon would explain, “Ultron needs to be the brainchild of the Avengers.” The director also gets into why he had to dial down the powers of Ultron so that he wouldn’t be god-like. Hit the jump for more.

Miles Morales Spider-Man

Now that Sony is sharing Spider-Man with Marvel Studios — for almost nothing — all sorts of rumors are spreading. We know that the studio wants to reboot the franchise to focus on the titular character’s high school origins while juggling both the awkward relationships and his superhero life, and a short list of actors gave us an idea of who they were looking for. While that idea may not sit well with some, this latest rumor could be the step in the right direction.

Rumor has it that the new Spider-Man may not be white, and may not be Peter Parker.

So does that mean Miles Morales will be doing the webslinging? Hit the jump for more.

Vikings Travis Fimmel

In The History Channel’s Vikings Season 3 “Relationship Issues” featurette, series creator Michael Hirst discusses the first apparent theme in Vikings Season 3, the complicated relationships between all the couples. It explains why almost everyone is anxious to leave their homes for the guaranteed violence awaiting them in Wessex.

Watch the video below.

The actors and creator explain their interpretations in the video, while I’ve mixed in a little of my own opinions below.

‘Big Hero 6’ Interview: Don Hall and Chris Williams Talk Disney’s First Marvel Animated Film

Big Hero 6 directors (L-R) Chris Williams and Don Hall

It has been quite an amazing journey for Big Hero 6 directors Don Hall and Chris Williams. When Disney acquired Marvel back in 2009, Hall found an obscure Marvel property that he would use as an inspiration for his follow up to Winnie The Pooh. Chris Williams then came on as co-director to help help him out.

Big Hero 6 may be an adaptation of a Marvel title, but this is a Disney movie through and through, and is a culmination of years of research at Carnegie Mellon, San Francisco, and Tokyo, as well as writing and rewriting the story over and over until it was just right.

The Academy Award-nominated* film is already out on Digital HD, but will be available on Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack on February 24. We had a chance to sit down with the directors for a one-on-one interview where we talked about going from the pages of the comic book to the film, the recording process, cosplay, the research, and working with Marvel. Hit the jump for the full interview.
