Jokes that are obvious and easy usually aren’t that funny. But Screen Junkies’ Honest Trailers series have a way of turning the obvious into hilarious. Take the final film of Peter Jackson‘s epic journey through Middle Earth, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies: “The best in the series, because it finally, FINALLY means its over!”

Other obvious Hobbit commentaries we’ve made over the past years (and I don’t mean the time it takes to actually watch these movies) are there, including the way too cheesy looking CGI, the extending of miniscule sections of an already short kids’ book into three-hour movies, the movies making not so discreet mentions to the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. Honest Trailers compliments Martin Freeman’s portrayal of Bilbo, while making the point that the title character is far from the most important character in any of these films. Instead we focus on “Moody Dick” Thorin (Richard Armitage). Then comes the epic battle fought “between 5-8 armies” over the gold in “Scrooge McDragon’s vault.” If you’ve seen the other Hobbit/LOTR Honest Trailers, they love picking on Tolkien’s eagles. My personal favorite bit, concerns STILL not knowing any of the 5,000 minor characters’ names. Say what you want about the Harry Potter films/books, but I knew ALL the characters inside and out. With Tolkien’s world, names are too similar and annoying.

The best part of this Honest Trailer is the guest appearance from another YouTube staple, How it Should Have Ended, a series of animated videos detailing, well”¦ I think you get it. Here they mock Frodo reading Bilbo’s story and making all the complaints the audience has until Bilbo freaks out on him. And then the credits”¦ STARRING”¦ (in a recurring gag) the New Zealand Department of Tourism!

Screen Junkies currently has over 4 million subscribers on YouTube and releases new Honest Trailers on Tuesdays. They are currently narrated by Jon Bailey. How it Should Have Ended has over 4.6 million subscribers.
