Marvel’s ‘Iron Fist’ Netflix Series Hires ‘Dexter’ Alum As Showrunner

So far, Netflix and Marvel are two for two in terms of the success of their shows centering on the heroes of Hell’s Kitchen. Daredevil is already in the midst of production on its second season, while the recently launched Jessica Jones has been met with critical acclaim – though the expected start date for season two is very unclear. Now, with Luke Cage in production for its first season, Marvel and Netflix have just confirmed the showrunner for the mysterious Iron Fist series.

With rumors that the TV series wasn’t working, and that the two studios may opt to turn Iron Fist into a film, something needed to be done in order to ease some of those fears before even more wild rumors started to spread. And it seems that is happening, as there is a new report that says that Dexter and Six Feet Under alum Scott Buck has been hired to to serve as showrunner on Iron Fist. More on the story below.

Defenders Crossover With Avengers In ‘Infinity War’ Unlikely

Avengers: Infinity War Title Card

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe being as expansive as it is, there is more then plenty of room for characters from other films to cross over into the TV side. We saw a little bit of that in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. with Lady Sif and Nick Fury, but rarely do the characters from the TV world ever make an appearance in the films. Now with the MCU expanding its TV series with four new titles (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist) that will culminate into a Defenders miniseries as a part of the Netflix deal, there has been growing expectations for the Marvel Television series of ABC Studios and Netflix to leap to the big screen.

Of course that would be a delight for fans for any number of reasons, but just giving everyone from all those series the right amount of screentime would be a tall order. And that’s where Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War co-director Anthony Russo comes in. As much as we would all like to see a crossover of that magnitude happen, the director says that we shouldn’t get our hopes up. More on the story below.

Star Trek Beyond Starfleet

It has reached a point where covering trailers isn’t enough, now it is when said trailer will be released. A lot of that applies to the bigger blockbuster films, and sometimes the reporting is right, and other times it is wrong. Just like how we thought the trailer for Captain America: Civil War would debut in front of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but rather it aired during a showing of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

But, there will be trailer for a blockbuster movie attached to The Force Awakens, but it is a different sort of movie with Star in the title. According to a new report, the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond will appear in front of theatrical showings of The Force Awakens. More on the story below.

Massive Metal Monday: Mutoid Man “Bleeder”

Mutoid Man Band Photo

Mutoid Man is a heavy metal supergroup that formed in 2012. Cave In mastermind Steven Brodsky and Converge drummer Ben Koller joined forces to work on the material that would become their 2013 debut EP Helium Head. The recording was met with a very high degree of acclaim from fans and critics alike. Bassist Nick Cageao joined the band in 2014 and the trio began work on their debut full-length album.

Released earlier this year, Bleeder is a swirling amalgam of punk, hardcore, metal, and math rock. Watch for it on my (and almost everyone else’s) “Best of 2015” list.

This week’s Massive Metal Monday tune is the title and closing track of that album. Without further ado, I give you “Bleeder.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens 04

Star Wars defined the genre films like never before. It’s got romance, action, and that buddy cop vibe all rolled into one. Not only that, but since A New Hope debuted back in 1977, the franchise has become one of the most successful, spawning sequels, prequels, cartoon spinoffs, video games, books, comic books, and even a Christmas Special. With Disney acquiring Lucasfilm back in 2012, the studio has plans to release more canon films and spinoffs as well, all starting off with the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

We had the opportunity to take part in the press conference for the film, which no one has seen by the way — not even our moderator Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project, Pixar’s Inside Out).

Below, we will reveal the top things we learned about The Force Awakens, including what was it like for an established director like J.J. Abrams to be asked to direct another hugely popular sci-fi film, some of the fears and hesitations of writing a Star Wars script, working with motion-capture technology, if we will see Jar Jar Binks or Ewoks, and much more.

Here are the Top 30 things we learned at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens press conference.
