‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Featurette Dives Into Film’s New Direction

Thor: Ragnarok

It’s Thursday again, which means Marvel is treating fans to yet another Thorsday promo to help promote Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok.

In the past, we’ve seen character posters celebrating the film’s bright and bold tone. Now this latest one takes us into the mind of director Taika Waititi and his take on the franchise. Check out the latest featurette for the film below.

The opening of the featurette sees Chris Hemsworth talking about the title role that he has played since 2011, and how the film “strips him back and wanted to have fun with it.” Apparently, Waititi had the same exact idea. Both agreed that Thor should have more “attitude.”

Based on the trailers that we have already seen, I’d say they are having plenty of fun in this film. In fact, Thor: Ragnarok looks like the most fun of all the MCU films. Of course, that is just based on the marketing campaign, we still have to see the final product in November.

That being said, the marketing campaign has done a solid job getting me (and probably everyone else) hooked on this new take of Thor. For Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok is a new cycle for the life of the title character. “It’s the destruction of the old and the rebirth of the new,” the director said.

Perhaps what is most exciting about the third chapter in the Thor franchise is the fact that they get to work in a new realm, with new characters, and new weapons. For Hemsworth, “it brings in a new energy” to the franchise. But this behind the scenes look also offers a new twist for the Asgardian god of Thunder. Thor is going through an existential crisis, and his reckless adventuring finds himself on the gladiator planet of Sakaar. Where he is eventually pitted against The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), who has been off the grid since Avengers: Age of Ultron.

There are a couple of new clips. Well, they are more like snippets of new footage, but it’s enticing enough to have you wanting more. But we still have to wait a few more weeks until that happens.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok””the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization””at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger””the Incredible Hulk!

Thor: Ragnarok also stars Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, and Karl Urban, with Anthony Hopkins. It opens in theaters on November 3, 2017.
