The Mandalorian Star Wars

Rumors surrounding the casting of Disney+’s The Mandalorian, the studio’s first live-action Star Wars series, have been circulating for the past few weeks. Pedro Pascal was named as the titular lone gunfighter who “travels to the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.” And now, there is confirmation.

Lucasfilm has confirmed that Pascal will be playing as that lone gunfighter. And he won’t be alone. He will be joined by the already confirmed Gina Carano (Deadpool) and Nick Nolte (Affliction). Additionally, Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man) will be joining the cast as well. More on the report, below.

The news was confirmed on the official Star Wars website. In addition to the aforementioned castings, Omid Abtahi (American Gods) joins the live-action series as well.

Currently in production, The Mandalorian is written and executive produced by Jon Favreau, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode and serving as executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. Additional directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).

Of the castings, Favreau said “We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to.”

However, we know next to nothing about who these actors and actresses will be playing. However, THR reported on a small little detail as to when the series takes place. According to their sources, The Mandalorian will take place years after the events of Return of the Jedi and is set in the Outer Rim, where people don’t know and don’t care that the Empire has fallen. According to this, it will give them latitude in telling certain stories. So it seems likely that the cast will be playing entirely new characters And it doesn’t look like the series will have too many links to the Star Wars saga as it probably wants to carve out its own lore, one that is separate from Skywalker’s legacy.

Of course, we will just have to wait for more details as they are confirmed. There are a few rumors that say the series will revolve around an unconfirmed MacGuffin. Photos of this MacGuffin have been making the rounds on the Internet, leaving some to speculate that the show won’t be entirely detached from the Star Wars lore. Again, we won’t know until we get some sort of confirmation or see a teaser trailer.

The highly anticipated series will be exclusive to Disney+, The Walt Disney Company’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service, which is set to launch in the U.S. in late 2019.
