As fans awaited the Warner Brothers panel for The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H today, the massive screens began to play scenes from Peter Jackson‘s Lord Of The Rings trilogy and the two released Hobbit film. This segued right into video of Stephen Colbert on the set of The Hobbit where he played a Laketown spy and his wife and children also had cameo, and we got to see their cameos, as well as an extended scene with Peter Jackson acting silly.

Soon after, more video was soon, including a lengthy blooper reel, but then Colbert came out to moderate wearing his Laketown spy attire. Moderated by the witty Chris Hardwick and showcasing one George Miller, who directed not only the original film but is also handling the reboot from the directorial chair, there was a wonderful poignancy to their chat, especially when Miller let slip that this was his very first Comic-Con appearance. Miller himself gave us a backstory on the original film and that he was spellbound that he was actually making a new version of the franchise in 2014.

Dark Horse Comics had another announcement at 2014’s San Diego Comic Con International with word of the upcoming release of The Art of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The massive tome “collects over 30 years of behind-the-scenes material, lore, and classic imagery” from the classic Mattel toy line.

The Art of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is being made with the cooperation of various Mattel and He-Man historians and will include “rarely seen images of concept sketches, prototypes, and more from Mattel’s archives. Featuring beautifully restored art from master illustrator Earl Norem“”celebrated artist of the most memorable He-Man images!”

Early morning electricity abounds in San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H today as Warner Brothers unveiled some of their hottest properties. As the panels were introduced, huge screens spread out left and right into the hall, with was followed by a teaser reel for Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, as well as footage cut together especially for this event.
