We just finished the Labor Day holiday, which marks the unofficial end of Summer here in the U.S., so now it’s time to shift focus to the Fall, with all things cozy and spooky too. The Fall is also the best time for reading (in my humble opinion), especially since so many great titles are released this time of year. Compiling my list of Fall reading recommendations is my very favorite annual project here at Geeks of Doom. It is such great fun to research which books are coming out soon, as well as look back on what was released earlier in the year that I might have missed.

Below are some titles — with accompanying links to the print, ebooks, and audiobooks editions — that I am personally looking forward to this Fall, most of which land in the science fiction, fantasy, horror, roleplaying, historical fiction, and non-fiction categories and their subgenres. The first list is for Fall 2025 novels, which are presented here in order of release date starting with September 2025. Summertime is here! And with it brings lots of great reads to enjoy during the warmer weather.

Below are some this year’s releases that I personally am looking forward to reading over the Summer. After the main list of newer releases, I’ve included a “Read Before You Watch” of some older titles getting a TV/Film adaptations (such as the popular Daisy Jones and the Six streaming series), as well as some classic literature, like Dracula, which celebrates its 125 anniversary this year. The spooky season is upon us, with Halloween coming up soon! Below are some appropriate books for the season, ranging from kid-friendly to super creepy to absolutely terrifying, including new releases from Stephen King and Clay McLeod Chapman and a new audiobook installment for Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. There’s also a look back at some classic horror, such as Stephen King’s Salem Lot, The Hellbound Heart, the source material for Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, and more that are getting film adaptations.

This Halloween Reads roundup is broken up into three sections: The first list has new books that were released this Fall; the next list has titles that came out earlier this year; and the final list contains older books that were recently adapted for the screen or soon will be.
