| ‘The Sopranos’ and ‘Boardwalk Empire’ Writer Terence Winter Hired For ‘Scarface’ Remake
It’s being reported that Universal has brought in Terence Winter to work on the screenplay for Scarface. The movie is a long in-development new take on the immigrant rags to riches premise of both the 1932 and 1983 movies of the same name. Winter is best known as a writer and executive producer on The Sopranos, and writer, executive producer, and creator of Boardwalk Empire, both with HBO. He was also nominated for an Academy Award writing the script for Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, and was a creator, writer, and executive producer on HBO’s short-lived Vinyl, among other things.

| Jon Favreau To Direct A Reimagining Of Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ |

This year, Disney’s The Jungle Book continued to prove that their live-action adaptations of their animated films are a success. With Jon Favreau at the helm, the movie went on to gross $965 million worldwide, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of the year – Disney’s Captain America: Civil War, Zootopia, and Finding Dory are first, second, and third, respectively. Following the announcements of remakes of their other animated features, the studio has confirmed that Favreau will be directing a reimagining of their 1994 animated hit, The Lion King. | Bill Hader Will Voice Alpha 5 In ‘Power Rangers’ |

The heroes for the new incarnation of Power Rangers are relative unknowns, while the villains and supporting roles have gone to more recognizable names like Elizabeth Banks and Bryan Cranston. This was the plan going into the movie from the very beginning, and it looks like they are following through as the latest casting gets yet another famous comedian to join the ranks of the Rangers. Bill Hader will now be the voice of Alpha 5, the bumbling robot with a heart of gold who often assists Zordon, who is otherwise trapped in a time wrap, by giving the Power Rangers the tools they need to save the day. | ‘The Magnificent Seven’ Director Antoine Fuqua Talks ‘Scarface’ Remake
We’ve been hearing about a remake of The Magnificent Seven for quite a while now. The movie is directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer), and will finally be released this Friday. Another remake we’ve been hearing about for a long time now is Scarface, a new take on the story told in both the 1932 movie of the same name starring Paul Muni and the 1983 movie of the same name starring Al Pacino. Just last month we found out that Fuqua was in talks to take on that project as well. Fuqua recently chatted briefly about the movie and where things stand. See what he had to say below.

| ‘The Toxic Avenger’ Remake Grabs ‘Sausage Party’ Co-Director Conrad Vernon
We’ve been hearing about a remake of the 1984 cult classic The Toxic Avenger for a number of years now. But while the project has had troubles getting into production, it is still in the works. And now comes word that a new director has been hired to make the movie. It’s being reported that Conrad Vernon has signed on to helm the remake, his first live-action gig. Vernon recently co-directed the R-rated animated comedy Sausage Party starring and co-written by Seth Rogen. Before that he directed the not at all R-rated animated features Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. Vernon has also done a bunch of voice acting, including multiple roles in Sausage Party, Mason in the Madagascar movies and shorts, and most notably, Gingerbread Man in the Shrek movies and shorts.
