Real Fake History returns with its faux-documentary style to analyze the disastrous attempt to defeat the evil insects of Klendathu, in the totally hilarious and awesome action film Starship Troopers, directed by Paul “Showgirls” Verhoeven in 1997. Starship Troopers is fondly remembered because it fully embraced itself for what it was – a tribute to the B-monster movies of the 50s, with updated 90s special effects. It was totally off-the-wall insane, featuring gigantic alien bugs, thousands of war-crazy space soldiers, gory and graphic violence, and of course co-ed showers! It even has the most B-movie cast in B-movie history featuring Casper Van Dien, Jake Busey, and the great Michael Ironside. Watch the Real Fake History video below.

The third entry of Machinima’s YouTube series Real Fake History tackles one of television’s most thrilling shows, Game of Thrones. Real Fake History treats film and TV’s biggest battles and fights as the History Channel would treat war footage, with stock footage from the source materials and “interviews” with characters who lived the tale. Long before Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) was Caesar’ed by the Night’s Watch to conclude season 5, he first betrayed the Wildlings and helped lead the Battle at Castle Black against Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds) and a massive wildling army that included giants. Check out the video below.

My latest YouTube addiction is Machinima’s Real Fake History. Even the opening introductory video is perfect, combining war footage with major scenes from action films/TV shows like Pacific Rim, The Avengers, and Game of Thrones. After introducing their History Channel inspired faux documentary series with Star Wars: The Battle of Endor, they actually upped my geek-fueled fervor by tackling Quentin Tarantino (my all time favorite director), and taking on Kill Bill Vol. 1‘s Battle at the House of Blue Leaves… which you may remember features The Bride (Uma Thurman) taking on the Crazy 88 gang of Oren Ishii (Lucy Liu). Definitely watch the video below.

Just when you think you’ve watched all the cool videos possible on YouTube, here comes Real Fake History; short history inspired mockumentaries of fictional events in movies and TV history. As a entertainment geek/history teacher, this is like a wonderful conglomeration of everything I am into! Where else to start but with the series that might have the world’s largest and most vocal fanbase, Star Wars. The first RFH – Return of the Jedi‘s “Battle of Endor.” You MUST watch the video below. You’re welcome.

| SDCC 2015: First Trailer For ‘Firefly’-Inspired ‘Con Man’ From Alan Tudyk, Nathan Fillion |

We may never see Firefly live and breathe again (unless someone finally wakes up and finds a way to makes it happen for us), but while die hard fans of the series continue to hopelessly wait for that day to arrive something else inspired by Joss Whedon‘s show has been born. Back in March we found out about Con Man, a web series from Firefly co-stars Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion. Mirroring their previous gig working together, the web series follows actors from a canceled (far too soon) science fiction TV show. The actor who playued the captain on the show (Fillion) goes on to become a big movie star, while the actor who played the pilot (Tudyk) finds himself traveling around making appearances and sci-fi conventions. A trailer for Con Man was shared during their panel at San Diego Comic-Con—the first web series to have a Hall H panel—and now the trailer is available to enjoy online. You can see it below along with a poster and full synopsis that includes the cast of very familiar names you’ll see in the series.
