NYCHFF-07

The New York City Horror Film Festival wrapped up Sunday, in a four day genre extravaganza that featured over 40 full length and short genre films. The highlight was last night when Chucky himself, Brad Dourif appeared to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award. Over four decades ago Dourif was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Billy Bibbit, his first credited role in the Oscar winning One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. His IMDb page reads like a who’s who of writers, directors, and classics. Amongst his films are The Lord of the Rings series, Dune, The Eyes of Laura Mars, and Alien Resurrection. But his career will likely forever be tied to a red-headed “Good Guy” doll. In 1988’s Child’s Play we met Charles Lee Ray aka Chucky, a serial killer who uses a voodoo curse to transfer his soul into a doll. Six sequels later, the rest they say is history. The auditorium at the Cinepolis Chelsea was packed to see the man behind the doll.

Pet Sematary

Back in 2010 the writer behind 1408 was hired to work on a remake of Pet Sematary. Obviously that didn’t work out.

Now, after another adaptation of a Stephen King story in IT had great success at the box office, Paramount wants to keep things rolling with another crack at Pet Sematary. To make this happen for them, the studio has hired Starry Eyes directors Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer to make the movie.

Trick 'r Treat

Halloween favorite Trick ‘r Treat from Michael Dougherty (Krampus, Godzilla 2) has become required viewing for many on this night.

And so before you watch it this year (or perhaps after—especially if you’re watching for the first time), why not enjoy some videos related to the movie? Legendary Pictures has released a “From Script to Screen” video which looks at one of the scenes in the movie compared to what was written in the screenplay. The second video is one of YouTube channel Dead Meat’s “Kill Count” episodes, which shows you all of the deaths that happen in the movie.

Grab a handful of candy and head down below to give them a watch.

Black Adam Movie: ‘Due Date’ Writer Hired To Pen Script

Black Adam DC Comics

Black Adam is literally not going to be like any of the DC films we have seen before. As a character, he serves as the main antagonist for Shazam aka Billy Batson, the young boy who assumes the identity of the superpowered being when shouting “Shazam,” who will have his own film. So it was interesting to hear that Black Adam would be getting his own film. Of course, when it was announced that Dwayne Johnson would be playing the title character, it made plenty of sense.

While the project has been in development for quite some time, it just took a major step forward. New reports confirm that Due Date writer and Undateable creator Adam Sztykiel will pen the script. More on the story below.
