‘Hellboy’ Reboot: Lionsgate In Talks For ‘Rise Of The Blood Queen’

UPDATE: We’ve learned that the title for the reboot will simply be Hellboy, the same as the original 2004 film.
It’s being reported that Lionsgate is in the final stages of negotiations to distribute the Hellboy reboot, titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen.
The movie already has a star and director set. David Harbour, who is one of the stars of Netflix’s Stranger Things, is set to take over the role of Hellboy; while Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) will direct. The original 2004 movie adaptation and its 2008 sequel, Hellboy: The Golden Army, starred Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy, Blade II) in the title role with Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim, Crimson Peak) directing.

‘Hellboy’ Being Rebooted With ‘Stranger Things’ Star David Harbour Playing Title Character

This year, Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army director Guillermo del Toro killed any hopes of releasing Hellboy 3. The director said in a tweet “Must report that 100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it.” It was unfortunate news for fans who were hoping that a third movie would be released to close out the trilogy. However, there is still some good news for fans who are holding out on a new film about their favorite cigar-chomping red demon.
That’s because a reboot is reportedly in the works, with Stranger Things star David Harbour in talks to play Big Red. Check out more on the story below.

Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden are at it again, collaborating once more to bring us another adventurous story in the life of their deadly vampire hunter, Captain Lord Henry Baltimore. First of a three-issue mini-series, but number twenty-one in the full series, Baltimore: The Witch Of Harju #1 begins as many tales do, in the middle. Why, you ask? Comic Review: Baltimore: The Infernal Train #1
Baltimore: The Infernal Train
Written by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden
Art by Ben Stenbeck
Cover by Ben Stenbeck with Dave Stewart
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: September 4, 2013
Cover Price: $3.50
I took on this assignment without knowing that there was an illustrated novel and several comic book series preceding it. Mike Mignola’s name stood out, I like his Hellboy stuff, and have several volumes of that series on my shelf. Plus, it was a #1, so I figured this was a good place to start.
It wasn’t. Baltimore: The Infernal Train #1 is intended for readers already familiar with the characters, both seen and unseen. And because it’s so spare, there’s little else to grab your interest. Unless you’ve been chomping at the bit for more stories about vampires. (I haven’t).
