It’s hard to believe that a comedy sequel could actually be any good whatsoever. Repetition is the proverbial weapon of choice that so often kills a comedy sequel. It’s not even a question of making it greater than its predecessor but if such a thing is even necessary to begin with. For Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, there are a few concerns, sure, no film is without flaw, but Nicholas Stoller brings us something that is still funny and manages to maintain that sharp wit and hilarious chemistry between the cast members all the while adding new elements and even addressing a few serious social issues that affect us today.

The film centers on Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly Radner (Rose Byrne) having to move and put their house in escrow when they find out that they are having a second child. When college freshman Shelby (Chloe Grace Moretz) establishes a new sorority, Kappa Nu, with Nora (Beanie Feldstein) and Beth (Kiersey Clemons) right next door, Mac and Kelly recruit Teddy (Zac Efron) to their team to battle the sorority sisters and prevent the buyers from pulling out.

Last December, it was reported that over 2,500 actors auditioned for the role of young Han Solo in the untitled Star Wars Han Solo spinoff from The LEGO Movie directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord. The expectations are high to find the right person to fill the role considering how iconic the legendary smuggler is in the Star Wars universe.

Filming isn’t expected to begin until 2017, yet Disney and Lucasfilm are looking for actors this early on. And there is a reason for that. Apparently, they want to have the role cast so that Han Solo can make a cameo appearance in another Star Wars spinoff film. According to a new report, the list of 2,500 actors auditioning for the role has been reduced to a mere dozen. It sounds like something you’d expect to see as a fake news story on April Fools’ Day, but it’s something that’s actually happening. James Franco is playing Tommy Wiseau in a movie about the making of The Room, a cult classic widely considered to be the worst movie ever made that was written, directed, produced, and starred Wiseau in the lead role.

Franco, who’s also directing, has shared an image from the set of the movie, titled The Disaster Artist, with him in full Wiseau costume and accompanied by his brother Dave Franco, who plays the actor who played Mark (oh hai), Greg Sestero. A bunch of actors have also recently joined the cast, including Josh Hutcherson and Kate Upton. You can see the image and read more about the cast and who they’re playing below.

First published in April 1985, Cormac McCarthy‘s historical western novel Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness in the West has long been considered too dark and violent for a film adaptation to do the relentlessly horrific narrative justice. Directors like Ridley Scott (Blade Runner) and Todd Field (Little Children), who have never been strangers to making thematically challenging films, have tackled developing a Blood Meridian feature into a reality, but their efforts always ended in complete surrender. A tale of the dark days of the Old West whose violence and tone made The Wild Bunch look like an episode of Bonanza was never going to be an easy sell as a big-budget motion picture, regardless of what important names were attached.

The latest name to take a crack at filming the un-filmable is actor and director James Franco. Having already ventured into the world of cinematic adaptations of literary classics with film versions of McCarthy’s Child of God and William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying on his resume, Franco has long desired to be the one to bring Blood Meridian to the silver screen. A few years ago he even went as far as to shoot some test footage for his prospective adaptation, and managed to rope in some quality actors to help better visualize how Franco would approach a film based on the novel many consider to be Cormac McCarthy’s best.

Back in 2008, when Columbia Pictures announced they were developing a film adaptation of 21 Jump Street, I was wracked with cynicism. “Really?” I asked incredulously. “Because Starsky & Hutch and Bewitched did so well?” My cynical nerd-brain jumped immediately to the place it so often does these days, “Just what we need, another reboot that no one asked for!”

I was pleasantly surprised, however, to discover that this revamp wasn’t a gritty, self-serious take like Michael Mann’s Miami Vice, but rather an uproarious action-comedy by the directing duo of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. And I certainly wasn’t expecting 21 Jump Street to be such a smart, self-reflexive satire of ’80s buddy cop flicks and teen movie tropes.
