Warner Bros. has made some excellent progress when it comes to adding diversity in their DC films. They were among the first to have a solo female superhero film to be directed by a female director. And now they’ve taken another huge step with Birds Of Prey, an all-female DC superhero ensemble. Directed by Cathy Yan, the film will see Margot Robbie reprising her DCEU role as Harley Quinn, who will be joined by DC characters Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and Renee Montoya in a fight to defend Gotham City against one of Batman’s most notable villains, Black Mask.

While Robbie is the only confirmed actress to board the film, a new report says Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Justina Machado,, and more are being considered for various roles. More on the story here below.

Batman may have a lot of villains in his rogue gallery, but many of those A-list villains have appeared as different versions in all of the known film franchises. That being said, the current DCEU is building around the Batman family, which would, in turn, allow it to use other Batman villains that may not appear in the Caped Crusader’s films. Now, new reports confirm that Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask, will be the main villain of the Birds Of Prey film that is currently under development with Warner Bros. and DC Films. Justice League‘s disappointing turn out at the box office last weekend could give way to a huge financial blow to Warner Bros. Normally, a film that grossed $94 million would be a cause for celebration. But when you factor in the cost of production and promotional material, a low $94 million is not even enough to cover a fraction of the overall film. In fact, Justice League is already lined up to becoming the lowest grossing DCEU film since the universe was launched back in 2013.

It’s easy to go into watching Justice League with very low expectations considering how the entire DCEU is filled with bad to god-awful films, with the exception of Wonder Woman. That film was a huge step forward in the right direction for the superhero universe, as it used themes of hope and optimism to do some course correction.

But with Justice League looking like it did in the trailers, one would think that the film would be a step back. However, that isn’t the case. While it is flawed, Justice League has a lighter tone, is funnier, and isn’t as bleak as some of its predecessors. That being said, it is a DCEU film. But at least it is a DCEU film that takes another step in the right direction. Check out my full review below.

The DCEU has had its fair share of bad films. Actually, almost all of them are incredibly bad with the exception of Wonder Woman. That being said, the franchise has somewhat of a reputation for producing disappointing superhero films. Something you can tell by just looking at their Rotten Tomato score.

While the aggregator site’s scores for films can be misleading at times, it is a tool that is used for a filmgoer to determine whether or not they will check out the film in question. So it really says a lot when Rotten Tomatoes will not reveal the score for Justice League until one day before the film’s release. More on the story below.
