 |

UPDATE: Pre-order is now up for the Blu-ray sets; plus, there will also be a special limited edition Marvel Cinematic Universe – Phase One: Avengers Assembled 10-disc, 6-movie Blu-ray Collector’s Edition box set, which is available for pre-order right now. Marvel Studios’ all-star superhero spectacular The Avengers (Read FamousMonster’s review here) was a four years-in-the-making gamble that continues to pay off handsomely – especially if your name happens to be Robert Downey Jr. Having raised the bar for every major studio blockbuster heading our way this year Disney has today set a release date for the film’s Blu-ray/DVD bow as well as announced the line-up of bonus features that will be accompanying the main feature. The Avengers will be released on 4-disc Blu-ray/Blu-ray 3D/DVD/Digital Copy; 2-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo packs; and single disc DVD. The only extra features on the DVD will be an audio commentary by writer-director Joss Whedon (and if you’ve ever heard one of his commentaries you’ll find that a good reason to be excited) and the “Assembling the Ultimate Team” featurette.

| DVD Review: Adventure Time: My Two Favorite People Adventure Time: My Two Favorite People
DVD
Staring John Di Maggio, Jeremy Shada, Tom Kenny
Created by Pendleton Ward
Cartoon Network
Release date: September 27, 2011
I know a lot of people who are fans of Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time, and it seems to be one of the network’s most popular shows these days, but for whatever reason I never really gave it a shot. There was just something about the style of the show that kept me away for whatever reason. However, when the chance came to review the first DVD release of the show I took a shot, even only to see if the people recommending it to me were full of it. Having watched some of it now, I can understand why some people like it; I just don’t know if I’m as sold on it as they are.

Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!
DVD
Season Cinco
Starring Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, Richard Dunn, David Liebe Hart, James Quall
Cartoon Network
Release Date: May 17, 2011
To watch Adult Swim’s Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! is to subject yourself to an experience akin to sitting in the audience of a lethal injection while dwarves in clown makeup throw individually-wrapped slices of cheese on the walls and floor-mounted speakers blast out the immortal eardrum-bleeding ditty “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” by Tiny Tim at different volumes and various revolution speeds. When it’s all over you will find that you’ve laughed, cringed, recoiled in stark horror, and sat in front of your television set wondering just what the fuck that was all about. This is a show that the late comedy writer Michael O’Donoghue, a.k.a. Saturday Night Live‘s Mr. Mike, would have found immensely entertaining. After all, what is O’Donoghue’s Mr. Mike’s Mondo Video if not a Tim & Eric prototype, only much stranger?

| Watch Now: ‘Digital Decay’ Featurette From ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 1 Special Edition Blu-ray
Timed to the upcoming second season premiere of The Walking Dead Anchor Bay Entertainment is releasing a special edition DVD set of the show’s problematic but ultimately stellar first season on Blu-ray and DVD with even more extra features than their previous release of the first season. Today the company has released a clip from one of the newly created bonus featurettes and you can watch the video below this article. Titled “Digital Decay,” the 90-second clip takes brief look at the CGI effects created for the series, notably the additional zombies. There’s nothing revelatory in this video but it does give you a feel for the ways that digital effects are used to create a worthwhile end result.

Mars Needs Moms

DIRECTOR: Simon Wells
WRITER: Simon Wells, Wendy Wells
STARRING: Seth Green, Seth Robert Dusky, Dan Fogler, Joan Cusack, Elisabeth Harnois, Mindy Sterling, Tom Everett Scott, Kevin Cahoon
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
RELEASE DATE: August 9, 2011 Having the very unfortunate disposition of costing $150 million to make, and only bringing back $38 million worldwide in return, Walt Disney’s Mars Needs Moms can be considered one of the biggest flops of all time…and that, my friends, is not a good thing to have hovering over you. But is the movie really as bad as this monumental flop indicates, or are there redeeming qualities worth seeking out? The movie follows Milo, (performance captured by Seth Green, voiced by Seth Robert Dusky), a normal everyday boy who has a bit of an argument with his mother (Joan Cusack). As most boys would, he feels badly about snapping at her with some very unkind words, and proceeds to go and apologize. But when he reaches her bedroom, a strange bright light is making its way through the bottom of the door, and he goes in to check out what it is. When he enters, he sees some sort of craft zooming away, and, realizing his mom is gone, runs after it only to find a spaceship, which he sees has taken his mother.
