The Walking Dead

Last August it was announced that a new television series was being adapted from Robert Kirkman‘s popular graphic novel The Walking Dead, and now the first eight images from the show, which began production today, are already online.

The story follows a cop and his family as they team up with some other survivors of a devastating zombie infestation, and while it is sure to have all the scares that come with zombies, the show is said to focus on the stories of these people and their survival instead of the BOO! factor, which is why it’s being set up as a series.

The big concern in all of this was whether this graphic horror content could fly on a network like AMC, which is where the six-episode freshman run will air. And while that is still really yet to be seen, the fact that top hit shows like Mad Men and Breaking Bad live there and these new images you’re about to see are certain to give you some hope.

Limp as quickly as your undead re-animated corpse will allow you to over to the other side to check out the new images from The Walking Dead!

A Wrinkle in Time

Hope Larson will be adapting the classic Madeleine L’Engle novel A Wrinkle In Time into a new graphic novel. The title will also eventually become a movie, but for now, this news promises to deliver a beautiful visualization of a world many fans have only known in their own imaginations.

The young author and illustrator shared the news with her fans on her Twitter earlier today, saying “I’m thrilled to announce, at long, long last, that I’m writing and illustrating the graphic novel adaptation of A WRINKLE IN TIME!”

Larson is known for her writing, illustrating, and cartooning talents — usually in the world of graphic novels. The Eisner Award-winner’s titles include Salamander Dream, Gray Horses, Chiggers, and her latest, Mercury.

After making the announcement, Larson touched on it further via her Livejournal account, which you can read below.

Sin City

No one knows exactly how many times we’ve heard talk of a Sin City 2 happening by now. Clearly directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller — who also created the graphic novel — want to make this movie, but the big question has always been when they would actually stand up, buckle down, and get this bad boy going full-steam ahead.

The answer to this question is still unknown, but while speaking to MTV, Rodriguez made it pretty clear that it’s all about when everyone will have the time. We know Miller has gotten into directing his own films and that he’s been working on a story for a sequel to 300; while at the same time, Rodriguez has been plenty busy with Machete, producing Predators, and surely working on his own pile of prospective films.

Moses

The trades are reporting that 20th Century Fox has made a deal to acquire a pitch that would see the story of Moses from the Bible being retold using the highly-visual green screen styles that were used in the filming of Zack Snyder’s 300. The movie is expected to cover all of the chapters of the life of Moses, including almost dying as an infant, standing up to the Pharaoh, freeing the Hebrews from slavery, the plagues, and of course, the parting of the Red Sea.

The script is being written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, who recently wrote a new take on the classic tale of Moby Dick with a graphic novel vibe to it that is being developed for Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov.

Watchmen
Director’s Cut Blu-ray
Directed by Zack Snyder
Starring: Jackie Earle Haley, Billy Crudup, Patrick Wilson, Malin Akerman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Matthew Goode
Warner Home Video
Release Date: July 21, 2009

This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout ‘Save us!’…and I’ll whisper, ‘no.’

What would you do in order to ensure the safety of all mankind? Would you sacrifice millions of lives if it meant saving billions of other lives and creating a perfect and peaceful world? This is the impossibly difficult scenario placed in front of a small group of crime fighters known simply as Watchmen.

Watchmen is based on the timeless graphic novel of the same name by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. The book is the only graphic novel on Time magazine’s top 100 novels of all time — a truly epic feat for its platform. For many years, the novel was also called “unfilmable” by most people who strongly believed that no one could faithfully and accurately adapt the complex story and characters into a movie. Director Zack Snyder was the man to finally try and accomplish this impossible feat, and even better, he did it because he didn’t want to see anyone else try and fail miserably. Any time a director takes on a project simply to protect the legacy of of the film’s source material, you know you’re in for some top-notch passionate filmmaking.
