| ‘Wolverine 3’ Casts Stephen Merchant and Richard E. Grant
Hugh Jackman has been playing the role of Wolverine for the past 16 years. The character is the face of the X-Men film franchise, having appeared in all of the films, cameo or otherwise. He even got his own titular spinoff. The actor will, of course, be reprising his role one final time in Wolverine 3. But aside from him, Patrick Stewart was the only other actor to have a role in the film. And now it is about to add some more. Earlier this month Boyd Holbrook was cast as an original villain not known to the comics. Now according to new reports, Stephen Merchant and Richard E. Grant have been cast in the film. More on their roles below.

| ‘Deadpool’ Star Ryan Reynolds Interviews ‘Wolverine’ Star Hugh Jackman (Video) |
 |

Last month Hugh Jackman said his Wolverine character would beat Deadpool after Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool took a friendly jab at Wolverine, and many fans wished for the chance to see the two characters do battle on the big screen again. Especially now that Deadpool is a huge success, scoring over $150 million domestic and over $130 million foreign for a $284 million global opening on a $58 million budget. Not bad at all for an R-rated comic book movie. Oh yeah, and there’s those rumors that Wolverine 3 could be rated R now that it’s been proven that a more mature comic book movie can be successful with the right people involved. Reynolds recently crashed an interview session Jackman was doing for his new movie Eddie the Eagle, and took the opportunity to ask some questions himself. This has very little to do with Deadpool or Wolverine, but it is very funny and will still likely make you want to see the two in a movie together again. The promos alone would be worth it. You can see the results in the video below.

| After ‘Deadpool’ Success, ‘Wolverine 3’ May Be Rated R |
 |

In many ways, Deadpool proved that a rated R comic book movie could work and be a huge success at the box office. But given that a rated R movie is generally targeted for adults (or anyone over 17), it would be hard to at least make the same amount of box office coin as let’s say The Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy. That’s not to say just because it’s a little watered down in terms of the language and violence it isn’t as good, but if you want to your film to be as successful, you have to make sure it appeals to the masses. So by making it PG-13, you are doing just that. It’s easy to see why Guardians director James Gunn might be irate with some of the comments that have been made based on Deadpool‘s success, and it’s going to be no surprise at all to see studios try to copy the same formula. Seeing as the inevitable copying is close at hand, one has to wonder if Deadpool really is the exception to the rules. But if you have watched James Mangold‘s uncut version of The Wolverine, then you have your answer. That film was better than its theatrical cut, according to fans. So based on Deadpool‘s success, it’s easy to see why Fox might be considering giving Wolverine 3 an R-rating. According to a new report, they are doing just that. Check out the full story below.

| It’s On: Hugh Jackman Says Wolverine Would Beat Deadpool; Talks Appearing In ‘Deadpool 2’
Recently one of the many great promos for Deadpool was released in which star Ryan Reynolds in character as the title character wished his Aussie fans a happy Australia Day. But in doing so, he took a teeny tiny little shot at Wolverine due to the not so popular usage of his character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Wolverine is of course played by Australian actor Hugh Jackman, and so naturally the actor was asked what he thought about the comments and whether or not he thought Wolverine could take down Deadpool. This also led to the inevitable question of whether Jackman would be open to playing the character one last time in Deadpool 2. You can see what he had to say below.

| ‘Wolverine 3’: Mark Millar Explains How ‘Old Man Logan’ Could Work
As a creative consultant for Fox’s Marvel properties, Mark Millar has successfully crafted a cinematic universe with the limited properties that are at his disposal. Both the X-Men: First Class and Wolverine trilogies are coming to a close, and with the untitled third Wolverine movie said to end Bryan Singer’s X-Men Saga, it will be interesting to see how the franchise moves forward from there. We still don’t know much about Wolverine 3, but Hugh Jackman has hinted that it could be based off of the “Old Man Logan” storyline. The problem with that though is that many of the supporting characters and villains currently belong to Marvel Studios. But Millar doesn’t see that being a major issue, and believes that “the continuity stuff is the most boring side of it” and “keeping it simplified and keeping it generally X-Men universe is a smarter thing to do.” More on his comments here below.
