Edgar Wright will be making his full-fledged entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Ant-Man begins filming later this year for release two summers from now. The universally-adored Hot Fuzz filmmaker recently announced that he will be bringing a pair of old friends to serve in important roles behind the scenes. First up, Bill Pope will be Ant-Man‘s director of photography, and his name should be familiar to lovers of fantastic cinema the world over. Pope’s past credits as cinematographer include Army of Darkness, The Matrix and its two sequels, and both Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. He also served as DP on Wright’s last two films, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World and The World’s End. Pope is one of the best cinematographers of dynamic action working in the film industry and his experience with capturing large-scale superheroics with vibrant style and color makes him a natural fit for Edgar Wright’s latest splashy extravaganza.

Edgar Wright will direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Attack the Block writer/director Joe Cornish.

| ‘Masters Of The Universe’: Rian Johnson, Joe Cornish On Rumored Shortlist To Direct
Sony Pictures’ long-in-development live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe recently lost its latest director when Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), who had signed on to the project in the summer of 2012, departed to make the next G.I. Joe sequel. Back in October Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mask of Zorro co-writer Terry Rossio was hired to pen a new draft after a previous effort by Alex Litvak (Predators) and Mike Finch didn’t pass muster with the studio. This reboot is apparently of great importance to the franchise-famished Sony because they have put together a list of potential directors to take over for Chu, and if this list is genuine, then Masters of the Universe could turn out to be pretty damn great after all.

| Edgar Wright Lets Fans Know He Hasn’t Forgotten About ‘Ant-Man’
The amount of time that it takes for Ant-Man to hit theaters should be a testament of Edgar Wright and Marvel Studios’ commitment to get the story right. Announced back in 2007 as a sci-fi actioner with humorous elements to it, Wright, along with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), has been working on the Ant-Man script. One of the biggest reasons for this delay, aside from working on the script, is that Wright was busy with Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and now The World’s End, his newest directorial effort. But as The World’s End gets closer to completion, the director will jump right into Ant-Man. IGN had a chance to speak to the director about the status of the film and what audiences should expect.
