The Nightwatchman is the alter ego of former Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello. He created the moniker back in 2003 as an outlet for his political activism. World Wide Rebel Songs is his fourth album and features the protest songs he’s played live in support of many causes for the common man such as the Occupy Wall Street and Occupy LA movements, and the unions protesting anti-bargaining laws in Wisconsin.

Audioslave was the short-lived band comprised of former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell and former Rage Against the Machine members Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk. Hard to believe this album is already ten years old. It seems like only yesterday my local rock station was spinning “Cochise,” “Show Me How to Live,” and “I Am the Highway” in heavy rotation. Audioslave is still a great album and totally worth five bucks just to give you something cool to sing/growl/screech in the shower.

Amazon is currently running a deal through the end of the month on MP3 albums in their 100 Albums for $5 Each sale.

One of the $5 albums is the classic self-titled debut album from Rage Against The Machine that contains some of the band’s most well known tunes, including “Bombtrack,” “Know Your Enemy,” and of course, “Killing In The Name.”

The official website for Gibson guitars has released what they perceive to be the top 50 metal songs of all time. Gibson.com’s writers and editors worked on compiling the list over several weeks, releasing 10 entries at a time, and recently released the top 10, which declared the number one metal song to be “Master of Puppets” by Metallica.

In some ways, the number one spot for Metallica is fitting, considering 2011 is the 25th anniversary of the release of their Master of Puppets album. Having said that though, metalheads are notorious for having fierce and strong opinions about what they consider to be their “top songs,” on top of their fierce and strong opinions about what bands are or are not even metal.
