GoD List Banner

Each and every week “No! No! No!” MK2Fac3 and “Lord Mackleroy” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of August 29, 2012. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

While off at wrestling bootcamp, I learned a many things. I learned the art of the double turn, how to properly hip toss my opponents, while transitioning into the “No Lock.” Yes, I learned a lot of things, but the one think I didn’t learn was how to manage my time properly. Still working on that, but until then, let’s talk about some comic books since that’s what you’re all here for. Ladies and gentlemen, this ain’t ballet! This… is… THE GoD LIST!!!

Eisner AwardsThe nominations for the 2011 Eisner Awards, which celebrates the best in comic books and graphic novels, were announced yesterday. The awards winners will be announced at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con International on July 22 and the nominees represent a wide selection of this year’s standout books. This will be the 23rd year for the Eisner awards, which are largely described as the Oscar’s of the comic industry, and while there are a few other awards for comics, these are the big ones of the year.

Leading the nominees is Jim McCann and Janet Lee‘s Return of the Dapper Men, which nabbed five nominations. The unique story and art earned the book nominations in Best Publication for Teens, Best Graphic Novel-New, Best Writer, Best Artist, and Best Publication Design. Just behind Dapper Men with four nominations were two Comics of Doom favorites, Morning Glories (by Nick Spencer and Joe Eisma) and Locke & Key (by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez). Also receiving multiple nominations was Naoki Urasawa’s 20th Century Boys (a personal favorite), Chew from Image Comics, Mike Mignola‘s Hellboy, and Daniel ClowesWilson.

Return of the Dapper MenReturn of the Dapper Men
Hardcover
Written By Jim McCann
Art By Janet Lee
Archaia Comics
Release date: November 17, 2010

Welcome to the world of Anorev, a land in which time actually literally stands still and there is no sense of past or future. There is also a sense of nothing really having a purpose. The land of Anorev consists of only children and robots. The children choose to live underground while the robots choose to live above ground. Then one day, 314 identical dapper looking men fall from the sky.

The story follows the characters of Ayden and Zoe. Ayden is a human boy who chooses to live amongst the robots. He shares a friendship with Zoe, a robot, who herself is special. With the arrival of the Dapper Man, Ayden and Zoe are lead in a direction to discover their destiny.

I’m a fan of stories such as The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan. When Return of the Dapper Men was announced, I was definitely interested in reading it. The premise of the book was very intriguing as well as the refreshing look of the art. Return of the Dapper Men can be described as one of many classic fairytales re-written for a new generation.
