| ‘Titanic’ Star Kate Winslet Reunites With James Cameron For ‘Avatar’ Sequels
A big name has signed on for director James Cameron‘s long-in-development Avatar sequels. Kate Winslet, who starred in Cameron’s 1997 box office juggernaut Titanic, is set to reunite with the director for the new Avatar titles. Cameron said in a statement that he and Winslet had been looking for something else to work on together, and that she’ll be playing a character named Ronal. You can read his full quote below.

| ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Star Cliff Curtis Joins James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ Sequels
There’s a bunch of Avatar sequels on the way. Eventually. We’ve been hearing about a sequel to Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day director James Cameron‘s record-smasher for years, but the second movie has been delayed multiple times. Creeping up on a decade since the original was released, the sequels are starting to take shape once again. Last month, release dates for the four sequels were set again, with the first now scheduled for release in 2020—11 years after the original was released. And now a new actor has joined the cast. Fear the Walking Dead star Cliff Curtis has signed on for one of the lead roles in the sequels.

| ‘The Cartel’: Ridley Scott To Direct ‘El Chapo’ Adaptation; Leonardo DiCaprio May StarYou’d think that after The Counselor was such a huge success that Ridley Scott would rethink directing a film about the drug trade. But he’s not going to let that bother him, as he is set to direct something more factual. Reports are saying that the Prometheus director will now helm The Cartel, the big-screen adaptation of Don Winslow’s much-heralded account of DEA agent Art Keller, who was the one who arrested real-life Cartel boss JoaquÃn “El Chapo” Guzmán. Guzmán recently made headlines after escaping a Mexican prison through an underground tunnel. There is also word that Leonardo DiCaprio may star as DEA agent Art Keller, the man who helped bring El Chapo to justice. More on the story below.

| James Cameron To Shoot Three ‘Avatar’ Sequels Back-To-Back; ‘Avatar 2’ To Release In 2016
Yesterday, we learned that Terminator: The Sarah Chronicles creator Josh Friedman was tapped to write the sequel to James Cameron‘s long-gestating sequel to Avatar. This was the first real sign that production was moving forward for the film. Now comes word that Cameron isn’t only bringing in Friedman, but multiple other screenwriters to work on not one, but three sequels. Avatar 2, Avatar 3, and Avatar 4 will be shot simultaneously starting next year, and Avatar 2 will hit theaters December 2016.

| James Cameron Developing Sci-Fi Samurai Movie ‘Doomsday Protocol’? |

An interesting bit of news has developed over the course of the day. it was originally spotted in a Twitter post by Production Weekly that stated “James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an ‘event’ film set in the future.” After that, /Film remembered an old trade subscriber-only post that announced Fox purchasing a Salerno script that seems to fit the description and went to dig it up. Theoretically, these two connecting forces creates a foundation, possibly setting up Doomsday Protocol as a future Cameron project. The 2008 trade post went a little something like this: In a seven-figure deal, Fox has picked up Doomsday Protocol, an original spec by Shane Salerno. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is known to be an epic science fiction adventure in the vein of The Seven Samurai involving a group of aliens and humans with various abilities who are brought together to save Earth.
