| Indie Movie Spotlight: Frances Ha / What Maisie Knew
Frances Ha Frances (Greta Gerwig) is a quirky 27-year-old hipster who lives with her best friend Sophie (Mickey Sumner) in Brooklyn. Without warning, Sophie moves into her dream apartment in Tribeca with another girlfriend and Frances suddenly finds herself out on the street. Now she has to find a new place to live and re-examine her place in the world, since few of her lofty ambitions are likely to come to fruition. Filmed in black-and-white, Frances Ha is directed by Noah Baumbach (Kicking and Screaming, The Squid and the Whale) and written by Baumbach and Gerwig. The film plays out like a Woody Allen-inspired episode of HBO’s Girls, without the awkward nudity but plenty of hipster cliches. Previously, Gerwig starred in Baumbach’s 2010 film Greenberg, and you may recognize her from films like Hannah Takes the Stairs, House of the Devil, Arthur, and No Strings Attached.

| ‘Despicable Me 2’ Trailer: Gru Is Back, Tell A Friend
The one thing that Despicable Me 2 has going for it, aside from Agnes, that one kid known for screeching “it’s so fluffy,” are those tiny yellow minions that are constantly causing mayhem and by the side of Gru (voiced by Steve Carell). The first trailer wasn’t too heavy on the details, which is fine by all means since it was a teaser trailer, as was the second trailer. Now a new more plot centric trailer has revealed a lot of detail about the story that will force Gru to fight for the good side. Hit the jump to see the latest trailer for Despicable Me 2.

| ‘Despicable Me 2’ Trailer: Whatever You Do, Don’t Look Up
A lot of what makes Despicable Me so adorable are those lovable mischievous yellow minions that go around assisting Gru (Steve Carell). The first trailer for Despicable Me 2 featured only three minions singing their off-key rendition of “Barbara Ann.” But it didn’t tell us anything about the sequel at all. Now a new holiday-appropriate trailer has hit the web and it seems to tell us that the sequel will be focused on them. Check it out after the jump.

| DVD Review: The Trip The Trip
DVD
Directed by Michael Winterbottom
Starring Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon
IFC/MPI Home Video
Release Date: October 11, 2011
Nothing screams cinematic awesomeness like two people’s vacation. Joking aside, that’s exactly what the team of Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon, and director Michael Winterbottom have done with their latest collaboration, a docudrama entitled The Trip. Telling the story of Coogan, who, asked by The Observer to tour the UK’s best eateries, teams up with Brydon after his then-girlfriend passes on the short little vacation, the film finds our lead at his wits end when his long-time friend, Brydon, takes the vacant slot on the trip. However slight the narrative may indeed sounds, the film that we ultimately get is both charmingly entertaining and intellectually delectable, more so than it frankly has any right to be.

| The Not-So-Must-Watch Teaser Trailer For ‘Marmaduke’ Is Here |
 |

Not too long ago, we discovered that the long-running comic strip Marmaduke was one of many old comics, toys, and other similar titles being turned into feature films. Apparently they were already hard at work on the film, as we now have a brand new teaser trailer for the flick to watch…if you so dare. Fans of the comic strip and kids alike may find themselves enjoying a film like this much like with Alvin and the Chipmunks and their new sequel Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. For me personally — and most of our readers, I assume — this isn’t going to be at the tippy-top of your movie viewing wish list for 2010. The teaser trailer is short and consists of a little voice over action from the giant dog we know as Marmaduke (Owen Wilson), as well as a transition from Phantom Planet’s “California” to 2Pac and Dr. Dre’s “California Love,” if you’re into that sorta madness. Head on over to the other side to check out the trailer.
