Today on the Show: We will discuss Joe Wright‘s Anna Karenina. We will also get into some headlines from the Geek-O-Matic Telefax about Star Wars, Guillermo Del Toro‘s highly anticipated Pacific Rim, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and some casting news about a forthcoming Marvin Gaye biopic. We will also read your suggestions for the subtitle of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Chronicle star Dane DeHaan has been chosen to take on the role of Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the sequel to Sony and Columbia’s recent reboot of the franchise, The Amazing Spider-Man.

The casting for the role was competitive, as numerous names were reported to be in the running, as we shared with you here and also here.

It’s become very clear that the Osborn family and corporation will be a major factor The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We previously posted that Brady Corbet (Tetro), Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures), and Dane Dehaan (Chronicle) were up for the role of Harry Osborn, son of Norman Osborn and heir to OsCorp.

Now you can add Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Boyd Holbrook, and Douglas Booth to the mix as they will also be in the running for the same role. These seven actors will test for the role in the coming days. Filming is expected to begin sometime early next year.

When we reported that The Descendants star Shailene Woodley was cast for the role of Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we also learned that Electro would be the villain and that Marc Webb was looking for an actor to play Harry Osborne. A lot has happened since the news broke, which also happened to coincide with the Blu-ray and DVD release of the film.

During the press day for the Blu-ray release, it was confirmed that Academy Award winning Jamie Foxx was cast as Electro. Now we are learning that the sequel will feature the Harry Osborne character and that three young actors are vying for the role.

Marc Webb was very close to not directing The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but he was able to work a few things out that would allow him to return to helm the sequel. With Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone set to reprise their roles as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy respectively, Webb was looking for a couple of actors to fill new roles.

We previously reported that Shailene Woodley signed on for a small role as Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and if that film was successful her role would be expanded in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Which would make sense given what happens to Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man lore. However in that same report it was rumored that Electro would be the villain in the sequel. That rumor is now a fact as Django Unchained star Jamie Foxx is attached to the role.
