The first official trailer for Marvel Studios’ next big event film, Captain America: Civil War, was unveiled during last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live by guests Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, who both headline this massive superhero epic.
You can check it out here below.
Also below is the official teaser poster, just released tonight by Disney and Marvel Studios.
The trailer, which will be playing theatrically with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, gives us a hint of the tension that motivates teams of heroes lead by Captain America and Iron Man to oppose each other over the course of Civil War, and it seems to do with Cap’s longtime friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and his nefarious past as the brainwashed assassin the Winter Soldier. Naturally, since this is a teaser for a Marvel Studios movie, we’re only getting part of the overall picture, so don’t watch this trailer expecting to catch glimpses of Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) or Spider-Man (Tom Holland).
The action on display is intense and looks to outdo the explosive set-pieces in directors Anthony and Joe Russo‘s previous Marvel feature, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, while raising the emotional stakes that have been built up methodically since the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The next trailer, which we can expect early next year, will no doubt give us a better look at the film’s true villains as well as a few fan-pleasing surprises as Civil War‘s theatrical release nears.
Captain America: Civil War co-stars Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, William Hurt, Daniel Brühl, Martin Freeman, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp, and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and is set to kick off Phase Three is grand style on May 6, 2016.
Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps””one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” opens in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2016.
