The last two Star Wars films have set the December weekend opening box office number bar high. Both The Force Awakens and Rogue One had record-breaking numbers and exceeded all expectations. Still, it should come as no surprise that Star Wars: The Last Jedi has high expectations. And when I say high, I mean high. According to the latest projections, the sequel is on track to earn $200 million in its opening weekend. More on the story below.

Justice League‘s disappointing turn out at the box office last weekend could give way to a huge financial blow to Warner Bros. Normally, a film that grossed $94 million would be a cause for celebration. But when you factor in the cost of production and promotional material, a low $94 million is not even enough to cover a fraction of the overall film. In fact, Justice League is already lined up to becoming the lowest grossing DCEU film since the universe was launched back in 2013. These low numbers could have a negative impact on the future of the DCEU has a whole. More on the story below.

After succeeding with Cinderella and hitting the jackpot with The Jungle Book, Disney’s live action lineup went with one it’s true classics. Back in 1991, Beauty and the Beast became the first animated film nominated for Best Picture, combining unbelievable new animation technology with maybe the greatest assortment of music and songs put to screen. The film won two Oscars, both for its music; Best Score and Best Original Song (Beauty and the Beast). It had 3 (!) song nominations. Disney’s new live action Beauty and the Beast is exactly what fans of the 1991 animated classic could hope for. The film directed by Bill Condon maintains all the magic and charm, while following very closely to the narrative of its Oscar winning forerunner.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice‘s disappointing second week drop and negative reviews, along with the mixed general audience, is having a ripple effect over at Warner Bros. Studios. The sequel grossed a meager $51 million, a 69% drop from its opening weekend of $166 million. With those kind of numbers, and a slew of other tentpoles that are getting more positive word of mouth, it is highly unlikely that BvS will even reach the $1 billion mark. The poor performance will now have WB mulling over a decision to release fewer films in a given year. More on the story below.
