| NYCC 2010: ‘Hanna’ Panel With Saoirse Ronan & Eric Bana |
 |

One of the panels at the New York Comic-Con 2010 that not many people knew anything about, was Atonement and Pride and Prejudice director Joe Wright‘s latest film, Hanna. But after learning a little about it, your interest in the assassin drama may just be piqued. On hand for the panel was Wright and stars Saoirse Ronan and Eric Bana. The movie tells the story of a 14-year-old girl named Hanna (Ronan) who is raised in the wilds of Northern Finland by her father, Eric (Bana), to be a deadly young assassin. As any young teenager would, she begins yearning to explore the world and meet different people — she’s only really known her father and what she’s read in her books, which consists of an encyclopedia and Grimm’s Fairy Tales, causing her to have something of a fantastical-yet-false sense of what the real world is really like. In order to get to explore the world as she so wishes, she must first complete a dangerous mission: to find and assassinate a CIA agent named Marissa (Cate Blanchett), who her father had thought was already dead.

| J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Trek’ Deleted Scene Brings Klingons To The Party |
 |
Another very cool part of this week’s Scream Awards on Spike TV was a deleted scene from J.J. Abrams‘ new vision of Star Trek that will appear on the movie’s DVD special features.
The scene brings the well-known Trek species known as Klingons into the mix. In the movie, the Klingons were not used and the villainous race were the Romulans and Captain Nero (Eric Bana). The deleted scene shows Nero restrained on a table while a helmed Klingon questions him and threatens to extract the information that he wants by means of a nasty little bug called a Centurion Slug that doesn’t enjoy dark, restricted areas, and will force its way out if need be. (And now we know where Nero got the idea of using said Slug for his interrogations.) Nero then finds the opportune moment and fights off his captors in an attempt to escape. Click over to check out the deleted scene from Star Trek, which will be released on DVD , Blu-ray , and digital download on November 17, 2009.

| The Geeks Of Doom Guide To Geeky Halloween Costumes |
 |

We at Geeks of Doom love Halloween. The smell in the air, the leaves changing color to mark the occasion, and all of the old edited horror movies playing over and over on your TV make it one of the most entertaining and exciting times of year. Back in 2006, we compiled a list of some of the best geek costumes on the market for those of you who do not yet have an idea as to what you want to be. It’s already been three years now, so we thought it was about time to compile another epic list of costume options for the undecided (which includes myself). While checking these costumes out, keep some things in mind — most importantly: pretty much every costume that you see will have multiple styles of varying price and quality. The majority of the ones we have here are in the $30-$50 range, but you can find really high-quality “Deluxe” versions of the costume that will run you in the $100-$200 dollar range. These are for the folks who have money to spare and love authenticity. If you’re out of your freakin’ mind, there’s even Batman and Darth Vader costumes that will run you $700+ dollars. If you don’t like the one we’ve linked to, just search the character and check out all of the others that exist. Most costumes have children’s versions available, too. We’ve included some great kids’ costumes, but if you find an adult one you’d like for the little ones, just search it out! Also worth keeping in mind: a lot of these costumes have female counter-costumes that would be perfect for couples looking to match up. Oh, and it won’t be stupid like going as a plug and an electrical socket. Tee-hee. Many, many costume options were found for men, women, children, and pets, so please continue on and check some of them out!

| Watch Now: New Red Band Trailer For Judd Apatow’s ‘Funny People’ |

Universal Pictures has released a new red band trailer for Funny People, the new movie from comedy king Judd Apatow that stars Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen. Apatow himself refers to the movie as a serious one that he has attempted to make even funnier than his not-so-serious comedies. It tells the tale of George Simmons (fittingly played by Sandler), a stand-up comedian who has moved on to super stardom via mainstream family movies. One day the star discovers that he has a rare disease and will likely die. In his last days, he realizes he doesn’t have much and befriends a young and up-and-coming comedian who helps him write jokes. The movie carries a great supporting cast as well, including: Leslie Mann, Eric Bana, Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman, and others. Funny People will be released on July 31, 2009. Click on over to the other side to check out the new trailer. As always, this is a RED BAND trailer and is NSFW.

| Box Office Buzz: ‘Star Trek’ Earns $79 Mil; Breaks IMAX Records
While touted as being “not your father’s Star Trek,” perhaps it was actually your mother’s, because this Mother’s Day weekend, JJ Abrams‘ prequel/reboot Star Trek reportedly earned $79.2 million at the domestic box office and has broken opening weekend IMAX records.
Paramount reports that due to strong attendance on Mother’s Day yesterday — which brought in $21 million — the film exceeded expectations by $3 million. The film went into early previews on Thursday night and played in 3,849 locations. Meanwhile, 11% of the film’s total domestic gross came from its Star Trek: The IMAX Experience showings, which brought in $8.5 million from 138 IMAX screens. The limited IMAX run registered a per screen average of approximately $62,000 for the weekend, marking the highest grossing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday ever for an IMAX opening.
