Firefly: Still Flying

A brand new book is being released by Titan Books, and it will be called Firefly: Still Flying.

That’s right, yet another way for the Browncoats of the world to continue their love affair with one of the best science fiction shows we’ve ever had the good fortune of meeting, Firefly.

This new book will offer many new and unseen images and pieces of artwork from the show, and it will include reflections from the cast on their experiences on Firefly and a dedication to we the fans. But the real selling point is the inclusion of four new short stories, written by the hands of some of Firefly‘s wonderful writing staff.

Firefly Comic

MTV Splash Page has learned that comedian and all-around geek Patton Oswalt has written a brand new comic book based in the world of Joss Whedon‘s wild science fiction western, Firefly.

This will not be the first time a comic book will be set there; back in 2005, Whedon made a 3-part comic series titled Serenity: Those Left Behind. Then, in 2008, he made yet another 3-part comic, this time called Serenity: Better Days.

Click over for much more, but be warned: the details of the story do include spoilers from Firefly/Serenity, so if you’ve not seen them, go and buy 26 copies of each right this moment and watch them immediately.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon

I’m going to be blunt with you for a moment. Recently, I finally was able to watch Twilight (which waited until New Moon was almost on freakin’ DVD before it even got to Showtime!) for the very first time.

Being someone who has a sixth sense that allows me to get a pretty good vibe from movies based on their trailers, my expectations were not very high. I was, however, full of hope that this vampire phenomena would somehow surprise me and turn out to be a good time.

It was not.

Firefly

UPDATE: Many thanks to Geeks of Doom reader Wilco who provided us with a link to the actual video of this shuttle crew’s wake-up call, complete with a nice shout-out to Firefly. You can check it out below!

To be perfectly honest, I just don’t know how much more insanely cool stuff needs to happen for the seemingly slow folks at 20th Century Fox or some other network to bring back Joss Whedon and his Firefly.

In a message via their Twitter account yesterday at 4:18 PM EST, National Aeronautics and Space Administration shared with the world that their shuttle space crew were awoken to the addictive melodies of “The Ballad of Serenity,” the theme song and opening titles tune for every episode of Firefly.

@NASA Shuttle crew awoke @4:14pET to theme song from “Firefly.” The Ballad of Serenity, performed by Sonny Rhodes, was played for Bob Behnken.

Because SciFi Wire (where I first saw this) included it, you can also click on over to watch the opening titles for Firefly and hear the song, just in case you haven’t heard it before or even if you’re just itching to hear it again.

Enchanted

In 2007, Disney found themselves with a new mega-hit that was called Enchanted. The movie took that classic Disney hand-drawn cartoon vibe, and brought it to a live-action modern day New York City. The movie went on to make $340 million worldwide, so fans will be thrilled to know that the studio is going full-steam ahead on a sequel, Enchanted 2.

Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, and Susan Sarandon starred in the original, but none are currently confirmed to be returning or not. You can be sure, however, that Disney will be going after them all aggressively. Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld are returning as producers on the sequel, but aside from that, the crew will be all new. Jessie Nelson has been brought in to write the screenplay, and Anne Fletcher will be directing this time around.
